In a discussion with a wire service rep at our show, I was asked how I was going to relay orders if I had no wire service. I told him, simple, if the customer wishes me to take care of their order, I will use my credit card to send the order to a shop. He kept telling me it was "Interstate Fraud" that I couldn't do that. My question to him was, I am no different than any consumer who is using their credit card to place an order anywhere in the world....If I call as myself, as a shop doing a "service" for my customer, and that shop accepts my sales tax resale number then fine. If not, fine. I am servicing my customer who wishes me to take care of it for them.
Is this what the reps are telling shops who have issues with their wire service? That they have no recourse to sending orders without a wire service?? I was laughing very hard at the audacity this rep had. Interstate Fraud??

Nope, not according to my lawyer....

Heck, before FTD florists were doing it on a hand shake!

Interstate Fraud

Hi Rhonda

INTERSTATE FRAUD ?

This was a WS Rep that made that statement ?
Shame on him !
Hope he's got something to fall back on.

After that statement I think it would be justifiable for a representative of that organization to get a message back to FC members pronto, with a complete explanation, including " the letter of the law, being quoted ", before someone opens up " a jumbo can of whoop arse ".

Jeez Louise, maybe someone should look into all the deception going on that would lend more toward interstate fraud !
Maybe the rep did us all a favor by making that statement.

FTD Fraud

FTD in the UK tells United Kingdom florists that they can't join other wire services or even web directories. If they do so, they will be thrown out.

This is the real fraud and typical of the mind games played by FTD.

FTD should be aware that this is illegal under the fair trade legislation of the UK.

Do you mean FTD/Interflora won't even allow members to be listed in independent directories? How can they prevent any member's website from being shown in Google's directory or any other entitiy that classifies websites by topic?

Was this an old rule left over from when Interflora was owned by florists? If so, what were they thinking?

Would like to hear more on this from the other side of the pond.

What other information on this topic can our UK sisters and brothers provide ?
Making North America very curious !

Hasn't FTD learned from their 3 lawsuits in the US over their history?

FTD had obtained a near-monopoly position in its market. It has been sued several times by the United States Department of Justice to ensure it does not engage in non-competitive behavior, namely prohibiting members from affiliating with competing flowers-by-wire services. FTD entered into consent decrees with the Department of Justice after 1956, 1969, and 1990 suits,
Quote from Wikipedia's FTD article.

This is also the case in New Zealand.

How can they prevent any member's website from being shown in Google's directory or any other entitiy that classifies websites by topic?

When we were inviting florist's in NZ to join our new directory www.vuzien.co.nz, we were told by a few different Interflora florists that they were not allowed to join and that it was strictly enforced. Our argument to that was very similar to yours...."if that is the case then you will have to get rid of your yellow pages listing as we are only a directory". A couple of these florists did in fact join!
These 'bully tactics' are disgusting but unfortunately it is fairly common.:fdevil:
