I would be very suprized. They are not just 800flowers, they also own Plow and Hearth, Cheryls Cookies and the Popcorn Factory. They would lay off a bunch of people before they would just close.

supposedly their declining stock only hurts the shareholders....i believe they profit approx 21 billion on total revenues of almost 1 billion....

ole Jig mccann gets his 1.4 million dollar check and will dump shares when the time is right....his brother chris dumped over $1million dollars worth not too long ago when it was trading at $8.50 per...

Now that's fuzzy math. If I could figure out how to make 21 billion profit on 1 billion sales, I'd be king of the world.

Has anyone else had difficulty contacting 1-800-flowers the past hour. It appears that all phones are being ignored. The last OG this happened with went beelly up......do we have a repeat here?

All I know is that their stock is 1.44 today at this point, down another .15 as of 2:15. Maybe it's a holiday for the India c/s center?

I needed to call Bloomlink and got through to someone after about 10 minutes. I also called my rep who called me back 5 minutes later so everything seems to be running as normal.

Hey, isn't that what Martha went to the pokey for?!?!?!?!? Nope, it was just for lying that she had done it. I'll bet he'll know better...'yeah, I sold it, so!?!?'

ProFlowers and 1-800-flowers might merge. It would make sense to both of them.

That just sounds fishey ;)

ProFlowers and 1-800-flowers do compliment each other though if they merge. Just combining their distribution channells (warehouses, etc) alone would save a lot of money. From You Flowers orders now go through Bloomnet, significant saving. Combined purchasing power, too, would be very beneficial.

No one has any effective strategy to compete with ProFlowers. TF's strategy emphasizing florist-arranged bouquets was a nice try, but probably won't work.

Problem is that, time and again, most consumers do not see much value in design work. This lack of perceived value in design work is most evident in mono floral arrangements.

For example, take a look at tulips.

Teleflora sells 10 dutch (regular) tulips for over $40.

ProFlowers? 20 tulips for less than $40. They use better tulips, too.

It's impossible to persuade consumers that putting tulips into a vase is the reason for this 2-fold price differential. No way.

Why do we keep doing this losing strategy?

Its more then just price. Proflowers buys the air ways via radio for every major holiday and they pound there message. Teleflora running one spot at the super bowl merely caused a temporary dent in their armour.

Can we do better on our pricing in many areas yes but because we have no common message to be marketing we are and will continue to lose the marketing/image war
