Steelcase just announced they will cut up to 300 jobs.
Herman miller - 600 jobs.
all by the end of January almost all in West Michigan. On top of the last Gm stamping facility announced last month to close, but then GM is on life support. Millions of jobs lost with that one.

Makes for a hopping biz. :(

Merck is cutting jobs left and right. An RN who is one of our best friends - 12 years with Merck, let go. Another friend 10 years with marketing - she will find out Jan 5th. She is the bread winner in the family, as her husband (and one of my best friends) is a Pastor, working as the IT Director at Biblical Theo. Seminary.

Hey - this effects us all in SO many ways. I can see our holiday party biz drying up to nothing.

THIS is why I fear for this Christmas...

- H.

PS - and those arses at AIG.GGGH! still go to their spas, and have elaborate dinners and meetings...with OUR MONEY! It has to stop.
My 401k is nearly dead...

Quite a legacy he's leaving ain't it?

You just can't resist--He was only part of the problem. I notice you never seem to blame congress. Are you going to blame the next guy for what appears to be a bad situation made worse, or just keep blaming Bush forever?

If you're going to be so adamant in your accusations, at least blame the right people.

respectfully,

...who's that? Carter, Clinton, pelosi, reid, murtha, dodd and frank?
The fannie/freddie fiasco which allowed to go untouched for the last two years by the last 5 of these characters would be immediate termination
in a real business. But I'll never convince you of that. So peace dude.

We got one of our IRA statements yesterday. Sickening at the losses, especially when we think how hard we worked to save for our futures.

....try not to worry about it and just keep adding to your 401k. Remember, buy low sell high. Keep the faith.

No You'll never manage to convince me that 2 years of gridlocked congress could overrule all the Dumbo blunders.

I hope that the government can somehow assist the automakers just a little, I think that overall it will affect more jobs and lives then the airlines that have been bailed out in the past. Don't get me wrong I don't think it should just be handed over, I was listening to a program with Arnold S. from Ca and he suggested that the Government review their business practices. How are cars being built overseas for less? My hubby sells cars and thankfully has not been affected much yet. My heart goes out to you in MI. (But watch out this weekend for the Buckeyes!) heehee
