We personally cover 55 zips and we've been getting almost nothing from ftd.... we are weighted the top in every zip and still nothing...

I just checked TF and FTD directory and your shop is listed far down on the list.

lol......i didnt mean shop to shop...we all know that most shops arent senders....i meant from dot com....im hardcoded as a 12 or 15, i forget....but the point is....not only do we not get anything for the day, we dont get any for other days..

I am an 800-flowers preferred in my area just after the LFC...and my volume has dropped way way back...I think it is just that people are choosing not to spend their money on flowers...unfortunate for us...

Both wire services seem to be very slow--possibly reflecting what is happening to the industry in general right now.

do you think that the florists themselves are the downfall of our industry???

I mean to be a member of a wire service that has rules and regulations, that the shops agree to, only to pick and choose what they will and wont do.

Also, we as an industry need to be licensed. No exceptions...there are way too many shops out there that do horrible work..

I personally believe that it is us, the florists that is bringing down our own industry...

Lastly, I dont remember the thread, but a lady asked why people gravitated towards the og's.. Well..........I believe that many people do not possess common sense...so they are duped by pro flowers and the other drop ship companies...also og's SPEND THE MONEY that most florists dont...they have BRANDING AND NAME RECOGNITION that most florists dont...

Sorry to be off topic....hope i dont get caught by the FC cops

Not that they have branding so much that they market better than us on the internet specifically...They get the people when they need flowers and are right there for them to see and pick...

Whether it is because they operate more like a business with more capital to draw on or plan better I am not sure, but they do do a whole lot of things better than we...all I know is if they figure out how to get a higher satisfaction rating we are all doomed...The fact that they screw up so many orders is probably one of the few things we have going for us as florists against them..

They dont screw up the orders....the florists that fill them do... also...dont you think if ftd stopped giving sending rebates all together, they could go to an 80/20 split and still be profitable??? of course this would mean they wouldnt be catering to the big senders....this, in my opinion, would be a start in the right direction

You know it could be people are getting it, calling direct. By-passing the middle man!! Sure would be a plus for one's not belonging to wire services.
:tunes:

Another thing...I dont think they are better marketers than i am...If you recall, chr had thought i had a whole army of workers spamming reviews and so forth...It was all me...I have many ideas and come for 2 generations of business owners....I dont sit idle all day and piss and moan on a msg board ( only sometimes =)....if we all did our share in our own little part of the country, we'd be fine...also, if we all did our very best as far as design and value, we'd be fine...truth is, too many of the florists in this country are terrible....that isnt an opinion, its fact...as a former national advertiser, i can say this without any hesitation whatsoever....bloomz feel free to chime in on this one.

some people are getting it.....most arent.....this slowdown is not a result of people "Getting it"

Fact is, all the layoffs are affecting us....little by little...each time there are more layoffs, it gets just a little slower..

The other thing is......I dont believe most people will ever "get it" this is all a losing battle with the og's....the key is to convert just enough to keep your own business going..

We're Tel not FTD, but for March we are 29% down in wire in and 29% down overall (compared to 2008). Very bad month in every category.

In comparison, for Jan & Feb combined, we are only 15% down in wire in and 16% down overall. So March has been significantly down, even much more so than even a sucky Jan and Feb.

You're not alone.

OG-ing primarily works only where local florists aren't paying attention and doing what needs to be done.

Which leaves them plenty of room.

Take that to the bank

Hell, nominate it for post of the week.

Yes they would still be profitable and then wouldn't have the volume of orders to send to people looking to fill and would lose membership....

They want membership and members want orders...round and round we go...where we will stop nobody knows..

and you are wrond they screw up many of their own orders, by not knowing where they end up, or not sending them in the first place...and then florists screw up the others..

The marketing comment was on florists as a group, and you are correct there are a whole lot of bad florists out there, there are also a whole lot of good florists with no idea how to market especially with all the new fangled marketing ie, internet, facebook, adwords, etc.
