Think and do during a power blackout. I was going to deliver medications in a high rise, and I knew the lady that was coming down. I said to go back up that there was nothing open for her. I knew she wanted to go play BINGO... Well I met her back downstair and she was waiting on a bench why rest. arent open if they had gas stoves????
After the two blackout we had, we had line up for gas a mile long.WHY??? if there is nothing open, why would they use the car to go someplace????
Grocery store selling ice cream, 2 for 1...What a deal, everyone was buying it like it was no tomorrow, I wonder they realize that it may melt before the power outage came back on...
You would think people would be ready for the second outage, but no, there was still people looking for candles during the second outage when all the store where closed.
I know of a lady emptying her freezer to put the meat etc in coolers with ice so they don't defrost. I told her that her stuff is better in the freezer for up to 48 hours before anything reallly happens.
I am sure other have stories to tell.

It just goes to show...

how poorley prepared most people are, and the things they take for granted.
We were up and running with back up power, and still delivering while the power was out...though our drivers wouldn't make the climb to a 4th floor of an apartment building.
When it became apparent that flowers were the LAST thing on peoples minds, we packed it in as well!
Most people were VERY WELL BEHAVED, but talk about poor preparation..and THEN, while power was restored, they were PANIC buying almost ANYTHING they could get their hands on....like maybe the sky was falling!!

Never have been able to understand why every time there is a power outage. The first thing people do is open up the frig. and freezer LETTING THE COLD AIR OUT!

If there were more campers in the world. A little blackout would be a mini vacation.

Will we see another baby boom in May?

Did the city slickers take the time to look at the stars?

How many candles does it take to read a book?

Was the fact that society came together rather than fall apart during the blackout an unforseen result of 9/11?

I remember talking to people in the US on September 11th and they were all rushing to the gas pumps for more gas.

A gas station down the street from where I live, had 70 cars in line at 8:15pm, including Police cars, a steady stream of cars, trucks etc.

I usually stock up in basics every 6 months and make sure I know where my portable radios, scanners and batteries, flashlights etc are.

BN was ready for any business that came our way, as we have backup systems and notebook computers also in place.

I Agree Knife

I was wondering where these people needed to go durning the outage of the Power. They sure needed to "Fill Up " the tank of gas in the car???? and cause more panic???.

I'm so use to power outages it was a Blessing to See Stars without the City Light Polution.

It was SOOOO QUITE at 1am on Friday.....makes one think?

I believe we will see another baby boom in May, as a Florist said somewhere else, stock up on baby dishware in April.

This country guy always takes a moment to look at the stars, if you can see them, Mars and the Moon was bright Thursday night. I also listened to the radio callin shows, and it appeared a lot of people just got together and had little partys, everyone seemed very relaxed, including myself.

No idea. 700 plus calls for service in Toronto for Fire protection, several people burned down their houses.

Yes, I think it was, once they knew what was going on. North American's pulling together, opposed to pulling apart. :)
