Hey it hit me...something a bunch of us can do while it's slow. Let's see how many people we can get on board the FLOWERS FOR KIDS bus!!!! School will be starting before we know it and I want to be ready for the FFK classes.

I started teaching them last March and went kinda nuts over it!! Several weeks until school ended, I was teaching sometimes 6 classes in a week!!!:loopy. This year, I don't think I will do that many each week. It was just that I wanted to get to as many kids as I could before School ended...and I DID!

You really never know who you will touch or reach or just how much effect these classes will have. I have LOVED LOVED LOVED having the kids come into the store to get their diplomas! They are so very proud to answer the questions correctly in front of their parents. We give them a tour of our store and they think that is neat. Any way that we can help kids feel special is always great!!!

We just completed a Wedding of one of the Student Aids that was in one of the classes. She told me how impressed she was with me and the class that she wouldn't even think of going any where else for her wedding. I've had parents (that volunteer in the classrooms) come in with their children to buy "Birthday Flowers for the teacher". Part of the lesson is to find out what day their teachers birthday is and what their favorite flower is. Children have run up to me when I am out shopping to say "hi---remember me? I was in Mrs._______ class when you came to my school".

I have a huge stack of thank you cards from the kids....what a treat!!!

So what do you all say....? Let's see how many of us can get trained to teach the Flowers For Kids classes?!!!! There are several trainers here on FC to help get you started. You have NOTHING to lose and EVERYTHING to gain from doing this.

So let's get started and make a list....Who's gonna commit to get trained from FC? Come on....make that committment here. If you are already trained but just haven't put that toe in the water and started the classes, then here's your chance. Go ahead and make the committment to start!

I want names!!!! I will be glad to talk to anyone about this as well.

Who wants to be first on the list?

OK. sign me up. But please wait till Monday.I have a huge Festival I'm dealing with on my plate this weekend, finding the best placement for craft vendors and running my shop is all I can handle till Monday. I think the school age kids would love learning about flowers and they are our future. I want to jump on the bus before my competitor thinks this one up.(whom I would like to tell to bite me) In my town I want to be first with the kids, and put it in the paper, go on TV,just work it.

I'm doing the program and it's awsome! everyone who attends the class from the kids to the staff and parents comes away with a smile on thier faces and a new appreciation for flowers and the presenter!

I've done a class at the library and the local boys and girls club- and will hopefully be able to do classes to the 4th grade classes at our elementary.

it's a win, win , win, win
for the Kids, the school, my shop and the industry:)

these are our future customers!

Twila- have you been doing other follow up activities with the kids?

I've been thinking of doing some kind of follow up hands on activity- maybe offering a sign up sheet at the program- or at least a flier of the upcoming event with an RSVP.

It's not enough that I'm putting the bait out there.. I want to reel them in and NET them too! even better if I get a parent or teacher too. :)

I think I'm the only one in Northern NV! (so far)

Sign me up! Is it over the phone or how? Sorry, I know there are lots of threads about the details but I'm lazy. Maybe I can do it with Stacey and Adam?

Heather- PM purplegirl and she will send you some basic info and FFK banner etc.- it is only $100 to sign up-

Then you can set up phone call with Stacey, takes about an hour for her to train you-

I am doing training by phone next week.

Twila, I'd like to know more. As you know my store is too tiny but I might be able to hook up with a wholesaler here. Anyway I am up for at least learning more and starting the process to see where it goes! :)

Adam,

I see you doing great with this program, especially when you apply your video skills to your classes. If you make a Flip video of your experience and others can see how simple and easy the program is plus see the reactions and responses of the children, teachers and volunteers, then many more will sign up...

To alter a line form one of my favorite movies "If you film it, they will come"...

well I thought maybe a smallish class doing some kind of hands on project like a bud vase or the football mum smiley face- I have a very small shop so my ideal place would be my local Boys and Girls club- maybe an after school class?
I could probably get away with an under 10$ fee for the class- it would cover just the materials.

On a bigger scale (and this is on the VERY BACK burner) a kids club- similar to Royer's .. It's the coolest thing!

Robin you should totally do this! It's a brilliant program! just think, in just a few short years these same kids will be buying prom flowers for the first time- you can bet they will come to you- the nice flower lady that came to their class.

My kit is ordered from Stacey (purple girl). I will train as soon as I familiarize myself with the program materials.

Sorry Adam - I'll probably train the week after you. I might ask DV for a florist to contact to try to "sit in" on a FFK class, close to us. When I set it up, I'll call you and see if you want to go with me. Just to see it in action and get a little hands on experience.

I am interested and have been for sometime. I just have put it off.
So no time like the present!

I am going to follow this up with my own program to bring Girl scouts into the shop to earn badges. Might as well kick off those ideas now, so I am in!

I have had great success with the girl scouts. Give me a call or pm. With funds being tight for such organizations as the scouts, they are very welcoming with programs such as ffk that are free and educational as well.

We have the artwork for the girl scout merit badge. Happy to send it to any of the trained florists.
