Your local girl scout troop knows where to make up the merit badges. The St. Louis area made 700 a couple years back. Morpheus, in his "Buzz" years, and I gave two classes of 250 girls and 100 mothers each.

I'm a certified art teacher as well- is this something that is associated with the school system? Will most schools allow visitors without proper credentials? I'd love to do something like this! I miss teaching in the school! Also, for what grade level is this program intended?

I contacted the elementary schools in my city and let them know what I was offering. Out of 9 schools I talked to, only one asked for a background check. Actually (ahem) I never did turn it in...oops. Anyway, I was at that school several times teaching the ffk class. Nobody even asked me about it. Now that I think about it, the principal at that school went out of his way to let me know how much he appreciated what I was doing. EVERYONE of the teachers loved it. One less lesson plan that they have to figure out.

Never had to present certificates or credentials. I have always just worked directly with the teacher. FFK works great with elementary school kids. I have even taught the class to adults as well. What's great about ffk is that it can be tailored to almost any type of audience.
We plan on doing it too...talked to Erlene about it but now need to do more than talk about it.

I have the program, have practiced the script with my granddaughter. I hope to do it with her girl scout troop this year problem with getting into a school - we have 30+ kids /class K-6.
The costs to me would be expensive for one class. I had spoken with my Flowerbuyer rep regarding the FFK boxes they were "going to offer" and never materialized. I can not get any "local wholesalers" to give away (or discount) what they can charge premium price for....(even when it's ready for the trash bins).... Maybe with the "big guy" here we can change some minds??

My advise to any florist that wants to participate in ffk but their wholesaler doesn't, go to the ffk web site: www.flowersforkids.org. Click on "our supporters." This is a complete list of wholesalers and growers that support the program. Growers on this list will donate product for ffk. Give this list to your wholesaler and tell them to work with these growers so you can get donated product to conduct your classes.
This is a win/win for all involved. You the florist start giving classes. Your sales increase so in turn you buy more from your wholesaler then the wholesaler buys more from the grower. Everyone in the chain benifits by donating a little bit. The grower donates product, wholesaler donates the shipping and the florist donates time to conduct the classes.
