Our very own izabetho (Beth O'Reily) will be the guest speaker at the March 20, 2007 SAFD (Society for the Advancement of Floral Design) meeting to be held at 6:30 at the Cypresswood Creek Community Center in Spring TX.

izabetho is a member of Allied Florists of Houston (AFH) and Texas State Florists Association (TSFA) She was the 2006Texas Cup Winner and accepted and will be inducted into AIFD this summer.

This should be an exciting meeting...

Izabetho, I presented a program for SAFD last year in tha area. What a great, enthusiastic crowd they were. It is really fun doing programs when people are there because they really want to learn and want to be there. You will have a tremendous experience.

By the same token, I attended a really good design show attended by florists and employees that didn't really want to there a few weeks ago. The comments the presenter said to me were like:: This is the poorest dressed bunch of people I have seen in a long time....it makes me embarrassed to be associated with some of them.: No one clappped for any outstanding idea....unless I would finally start it myself: Where is the passion and enthusiasum in the industry anymore? If we don't love what we do...how can we expect others to go for it. This was not the presenter's fault.....it was the calibur of people that are calling themselves florists.

I am looking forward to my trip to Houston and the SAFD program today! It should be an exciting program. It's the first program that I have ever done, so keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

Renee and I plan to attend...see ya there.

Looking forward to it. I just love the SAFD girls - for those out of the area it's like a garden club with floral design as its focus. In addition to monthly meetings with educational programs, they get together each month to design arrangements they donate to charity. They are addicted to education and just love flowers and how people respond to receiving them.

We'll be putting up an AFH web page so ya'll can see Beth do her stuff.

I have to say that mcf and mlou are two ladies that really have their act together. These two are truly out there working really hard to promote the industry. It would probably take me a month to download my photos, let alone put a web page together. Thanks for your support and thanks to all the AHF members who showed up last night. The SAFD ladies were warm, wonderful, and refreshingly passionate about education in floral design. I couldn't have asked for a better venue for my first program. I had a blast and I can't wait for another chance.
