Folks
I am wondering if maybe I am not in the proper section to start this thread, but i'll give it a shot anyhow.....
JAVASCRIPT. I do not have enough room on this computer to run anything but windows 95, is this the reason, I cannot get javascript? I cannot load 2nd windwos, Meaning when I have a window open, let's say retial florist.com and I click on more smiles..the new ones, a wondow pops up, but it wull no load...and I cannot copy and paste, this does not work with Javascript.
I am not good at all with computers, I have been paying the same person for years, and he does not tell me much, as I gather, the more I know, the less I'll hire him for work, which Is only the truth.
But I am wanting to know what is it I have to do to get Javascript???? a bigger hard drive, would 2 gig work??? and how much should I pay for this used??? any Pertinent ino would be really really appreciated, Thanks in advance members.
Here are some factors that might help; i use wondows 95, int explorer, 5.5, i have many programs and alot of stuff on this computer !! whats else now....i guess thats it, if you need more info, please ask.

Javascript is a programming language used in website design. If you are running IE 5.5, you should have sufficient Java support.

Here are some suggestions:
1) In Explorer, go to Tools / Internet Options / Security and make sure you're at Medium Level for the Internet Zone.

2) Go to Tools / Windows Update and make sure you have downloaded all the latest updates.

3) It's really time to look at a new computer. For the vintage you are describing, you're already past the expected lifespan and hardware failure is to be expected at some point. Don't try to upgrade unless you're running at least a PIII - anything older isn't worth the $$$ to fix it.

Thanks very much. I have tried what you told me to do and now it;'s time to see what happens, will touch base with you! THANKS

HI there, thanks for the suggestions, but neither worked, I am wondering if it's not explorer 5.5 itself, as when I click on to something, ie: an link, thats javascript it will not work, but when I click on it, copy, and paste it will work, providing it's not Java, Obviousally has something to so with J-Script.

And also, my computer is old as the hills, But I have updated it big time, with all the bells and whistles, this is why I require an 2 gig HD, which I am presently looking for, they say not to pay more than $35.00 for it, IS this a good price? and what about an 4gig, how much should I pay for that??

I guess I really need a techie don't I, Everytime He does my work, I never learn, I basically have to do it myself, in order to learn!!

I do appreciate your knowledge and your time Infinate, if you have anymore suggestions, I would love to hear them. by the way, what happens if I put it on low security? is this a good thing to do? and also should I get all the updates, for 5.5 explorer, as there are alot, I mean alot.

Whihc updates would apply to this Javascript thing??? as I do not have the storage for all the updates that are critical.

Thanks again for your help, It must be frustrating trying to explain this to someone as computer iliterate as myself.

You must be a good teacher and have the patience of a saint!

Thanks Infinate.

Rosey, it is time for a new toy.
Windows 95 is no longer supported by Microsoft, Windows 98 and Me will stop being supported shortly, I think
Computers with 30GB drives and 17" monitors can be had for less that $700 USD.

If you think that is old, last week we had an emergency call from a flowerSoft customer's whose server's hard drive failed. As far as I know she is the only flowerSoft customer still running the DOS version of flowerSoft,
She bought a new server and new Novell version but refused to get new workstations, which are at least 8 years old.
And it is not like she's hurting for money. Her shop is in Midtown Manhattan. Big store, I can't even begin to guess how much rent she must be paying. Also, she has recently purchased the phone numbers of 3 other shops that have gone out of business.
So she upgraded to the latest version of flowerSoft but will not be able to do DECONS. I don't think she cares anyhow.
But she could have probably upgraded all her workstations for less that $2500 and she didn't. Go figure. She also refuses to interrface the Dove and flowerSoft and that is a FREE service.

It really has little to do with Money, as I know I can get a system for next to nothing! it's the knowledge/education, I am not at all good with Computers, and I know this one, so well....If something was to go wrong with it, I can normally fix it no problem, My whole business life is basically on this computer.........it's also a time factor...if I was to get it repaired, they want to keep it for days etc....anyhow, I am comphy with this one, I know you re right, it's time to up grade it, or purchase another.....I best find the time and get at the books....thanks for your input!

Rosey,

We're also warning you to do something SOON, because you computer could go at any time. If you've got everything important on there ... that could be bad. You don't want to start the buying process with a dead computer on your hands, or you might rush into a bad decision.

Buying a 2G HD is useless right now. It will be out of warranty, and in the same risk-zone as the rest of your hardware. New 40GB drives are in the $100 range - but you would probably need a drive overlay program to use them on your old PC.

Check out www.rkfcomputers.com/systems.htm for some low-cost ideas. Let me know if you need help in deciding what you need.

At least your asking in the right place... lotsa techies here to assist....

One thing I would recomend...DON:T be affraid... Move on up to WindoZ XP Pro, you'll be amazed at how intuitive and easy to work it is... I hated to give up my Win98SE, but after the forst week, I could not believe I did not do it sooner...

And like others have said, don;t bother with any HD less than 30GB, look for a 2GB processor, and 30-40 GB HD deal, I'm sure Ryan can/will come up with something for ya...

P.S. Oh Infinite one...ya got any 12" flat LCDs ?, I may be interested, trying to work out another new "toy"...:beer

Thanks again, You are right, I will get a 40gig and an whole new system. I also own an apple Ibook laptop, that the power supply was stolen ( moved and boxes were stoled from movers, nice eh!) amongst other things, do U thiink I should just stick with the laptop? I find them small, and accessable for the road, but not much good looking at them all the time....I can give you the details on it and maybe you can tell me what it's worth, it was 3000, 2 years ago, it's a 2001 model.
Maybe I can trade it for a new cpu/computer??
Please advise and thanks very much for your time again...
Rosey

I have it on good authority that there's going to be a whole bunch of new Ibook's coming out in a couple of weeks time, and the current models will go down in price also.

Sorry ... I don't deal in Macs - no market there, at all.

Laptops can hold their value pretty well ... rough guess, you might be able to get $1500 - 2000 for it, if you can find someone who wants to buy Mac.
