I work for Kroger, which is a national food retail chain. Many of the stores carry a floral shop, and they have an online site to order flowers. The Kroger web site is located at www.kroger.com.
I have not been in the business for very long, only about a year and a half. I have taken several classes provided by our wholesaler and ftd, but have yet to be certified. I am hoping to continue my education, and any new ideas are always appreciated as I work best by doing a lot of research and using that info in the shop. I'm not real sure what I can contribute to the community except a new perspective and willingness to use my strengths to help the other members in any way i can. I was refered to Flower Chat by Cory Brown, a representitive for Fitz Design.

Hi, thanks for your interest in our community. You mentioned that you were not sure what you could contribute to the community...well you have the unique perspective of being a grocery store florist. There is much we can learn from you. If you are voted in, I genuinely hope you will share your perspective with us.

Welcome to the community. While there is much for you to learn (as you're fairly new to the industry), I am glad to see you are moving forward to certification. That should carry some weight in here.

Please tell us what you are enjoying thus far working in the floral industry... oh and you can share what you don't like too. ;)

Thank you for the warm welcome. People here seem very friendly. You asked what I liked about working in the floral industry. I'm very much a people person by nature, and I love that my job lets me be a part of others lives during those everyday and pivital moments. I get to help celebrate the joy of a new life, the anxiety and excitement of a first date, and the joy and commitment of a 50th wedding anniversary. Even with flowers for funerals, I know that I have played a part in letting someone know that their loved ones made an impact on someone elses life and that they will be missed; that they have people who care for them and want to lend support during one of the worst times in their life.
Philosophical reasons aside, my mom absolutley loves flowers, and anything that makes her happy, well... Lets just say she gets flowers a lot more often now. It's costing me a fortune but she's worth it. I haven't really found too much that I don't like yet. Working outside in 90 degree high humidity weather takes a toll on my asthma, but for the most part I even like doing that.
I hope that answered your questions, and didn't make me sound too much like a sap. I hope to get a chance to talk to you again.

Seems to me you are in the right career choice. You are not a sap, you have a passion for what you do... that's a great gift.
