Okay at work finishing up a funeral to get delivered later and have the tv on with CBS Sunday Morning and hear my favorite band Journey...
They proceed to do a story on the band and their NEW singer - a singer they interviewed after hearing him sing on youtube!! I think his name is Arnel and he sang with a cover band in the Phillipines...
He is superb. Close your eyes and listen, he's Steve Perry to a note!!
Journey is back on tour with a new CD.
I am so glad to hear those songs again...
The story of the 40 year old Arnel is amazing, singing with his mom since he was able to. Mom died early and her illness bankrupted his family leaving them homeless. The rest of the story is amazing. He is amazing and so is the band that has welcomed him into their world.

I'm going to see Rush tonight in your neighborhood Beth.

I've seen Journey before too, and many Philippine cover bands which absolutely blow me away. People send requests to the stage there all night long, for virtually anything for anything from the Eagles to the Chili Peppers to Sinatra, and the bands knock them out incredibly well, absolutely mind blowing, the versatility of the philippine bands.

I just read the article and searched youtube and if you find The ZOO - you'll see exactly what I am talking about. Here he sounds just like Henley

Check out the related links - very versatile singer.

Here he is doing Journey

and here he is playing with the real Journey

Wow - this guy can sing anything with about any voice - thanks for the tip,, Rhonda. I had my wife watch and translate his story where he was being interviewed in Tagalog the Philippines, what a great story of a dream come true!

story in English

This reminds me of the movie "Rock Star" with Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston.

Is Steve Perry cool with this?

The band tried to get Steve back last year to produce and tour. He wouldn't return their calls.........(t'was in the interview on CBS S.M.)

I wonder why the bitterness? Is Neal Schon the only remaining member from their hey day?

I remember as a kid playing that Journey pinball machine.

I'm going to see Rush tonight in your neighborhood Beth.

I saw Rush in concert, it was during their "Signals" album. They are so unique. That drummer is incredible and still relevant today.

Jon,

Rush is tonight??!! Feels like only a month ago you were talking about it, and it was still months away! Too bad we didn't communicate.. hubby and I could have met you and your wife for dinner or something. Did you stop for dinner or just head straight to the concert?

Sheesh, I hope you paid the extra $ for premium parking. I've only been to one concert there, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and it took us forever to get in and out of the parking lot. Torture!

This morning the "Sunday Morning", show had a great segment about Journey. I always loved Steve Perry's voice and I was blown away with the new singer. Good for the group and away they go!!!

Yup it was tonight and it was well first half the new stuff I didn't much care for, second half was twice as loud and they lit it up real good. Amazing how much sound comes from 3 guys, a rare thing for musicians to pull off.

I've heard the drummer called the best drummer in the world and he was awesome. I'm not sure he's the best I've ever heard (I'm rather jaded, been to hundreds of concerts) but certainly among the very best.

Never been a Rush fan tho so I didn't know hardly any of the songs.

Parking? I have a Handicapped Pass from my accident last summer. :headbang:

And when we left the encoure was still playing and I've never got on the highway so fast after a concert in my life (2 guys I was with both had to get up at 4AM for work)

I am a drummer and grew up on neil peart, he was a god, however , age catches up with you, and quite frankly there are a ton of new school drummers who could run circles around Neil! Oh my , cant believe I said it but, Rush is old, their last good album was signals, my fav is moving pictures, after that, too many keyboards and not enough rock...JMO, still would enjoy seeing those oltimers though, glad to hear they are still a rockin'!:musical:

I can't believe you said that either !!

But yes, you're right, some of the new guys are better. No doubt influenced by Neil Peart.
Permenant Waves and A Farwell to Kings are my top 2. But then again 2112 has a special place for me. Actually they were all good before Signals.

The drummer in "My Chemical Romance" kicks a$$. My girls looked at me like I was weird when I played their CD, one even said, "Good for you mom" OK, way to make me feel decrepid!! Oh if they only knew........

I was the biggest neil peart supporter of all time growing up! I used to get in fist fights with kids who said john bonham was better!!!lol

He still is my ultimate influence and I practice the drums everyday, including the YYZ drum solo along with other songs off of exit stage left!

But lets face it, they are older and cannot capture the same sound they had in the 70's & early 80's!!!

However, yes they are all amazing musicians!!!

Wow, jennifer , you are so hip, ha ha, my chemical romance, woohoo, kids today and all that new rock stuff, ha ha!

I am so jealous! You guys have seen Rush! I'd love to see them (I'm Canadian for God's sake...It's the patriotic thing to do) I've just never been in the right place at the right time. I am soooooo jealous! Gudrun

He sure did do one HELLOFA drum solo last night. :yourock:

I've always loved them and consider drum solos the highlight of most live concerts.

The Grateful Dead used to always to about a 30-45 minute one with both drummers. My favorite part of the show.

Well, audience watching was actually the best part of Dead shows, but musically the drum solo always blew my hair, as well as my mind along with it.

IT WILL NEVER BE JOURNEY WITH OUT STEVE PERRY!!!! and my all of us are really dating ourself!!LOL we must be that 40 something:ned crowd

Give this guy a chance Tracy - my Journey fan friend said that same thing yesterday and I showed him the youtubes of the philippine guy singing and he got goose bumps and bought tickets last night to the next tour show of theirs. He'd previously passed on the tickets - until he heard the guy.
