Yesterday was a long day for me and ended up being even longer when a family showed up to order a casket spray. I was energetic until the daughter of the deceased began bashing a spray that was in the cooler.
Here we go, I thought.
She didn't like flat fern, she didn't like peonies, she didn't like carnations, she didn't like the roses I used...and this went on and on and on.
I knew she had a "picture" in her mind of what the spray would look like and I hate that because whenever a customer pictures something it's not exactly what you end up creating and they end up disappointed.
I finished the spray up and had put my own spin on what she had requested. I included all her flower choices and added a few of my own because she had only chosen line flowers and roses so I had nothing else to use to fill in or accent with.
I still cringed when she walked through the door. I just had a feeling she was going to complain about something. But, nope. She loved it and raved about it to her husband for what seemed like hours. I showed her the hydrangea and orchids that I added to the order because she had forgotten to choose a white flower. She didn't care because it was peeerfect. She finally said as she walked out the door...
"I should have just trusted that you would do a wonderful job. Thank you so much, it's beautiful."
I attached a picture. It's blurry because my blackberry camera is crap. But, you get the idea.
I'm just glad that's over and I can now finish the 15 other pieces I have for this funeral. *sigh*
