Well, we all knew this would happen sooner or later.
Now the entire arrangement will be drop shipped, no more "paint by numbers"
bottom of the box boquets.
No need to bother the florists at all.

Except....

WE STILL CONTROL *SAME DAY DELIVERY*!!!

Time to cut FTD off from access to US! :soapbox:

????

Where are they being designed ? and by who

Personally, they are very ugly and any 7 year old can copy them. My granddaughter has done very similar in the past.
They are as bad as 800Fl and their "star designers" now.
I can see, wire free coming very soon.

Hallmark has been drop-shipping centrepieces for a while now. ProFlowers does bridal bouquets. They are chopping down barriers ... how long until they CAN claim the same-day market?

Until they get supermarket coverage well established nationally.

Might be tougher in So Cal as I recently heard that Vons/Pavillions is cutting way back on trained florist staff and Albertson's is selling off their biggest state-of-the-art stores. Ralph's, owned by Kroger, is probably the one real possibility but their floral departments aren't full-service - yet.

The day may soon come when the only thing they need traditional florists for is dues.

They are glorious in their hidiosity... but, people will buy them, for whatever reason. I'm always amazed at what people will spend their money on. The local Loblaws has centrepieces that look like little boxes... flat on top... they sell. :(

I hope no one here is surprised by this ? It has been predicted and talked about here for a long time now. So my question is will we finally see this as a reason to come together as independent florist across the country ? or will we continue to predict what they will do next, then pat ourselves on the back for being right with our predictions while they continue to steal our bacon.

Side note....

Not a grocery per se' but the Super Wally World here recently re-did some of their departments and the interesting outcome was that the floral department was reduced by 50% in square footage...

The remaining area is nice, set up well, but still 50% downsized from what it was.

For years florists have said that customers don't like roundy moundy's.. guess FTD will find out if that is true..
But what happens when the box is toss into a sorting bin and ends up on it's head?? I am sure they are strapped in well ..but.Hummmmm
