Just watching an episode of Whose wedding is it anyway and they are at the florist - my favorite part. The (male) planner asks about a garland, and the florist mentions salal or lemon leaf and he gets all flustered about it seeming "cheap". Interesting. I've heard that about leather but not salal. What say you florists?

It *can* look cheap but, so can almost any other foliage. These don't look cheap to me. In a garland I would mix it with something else, probably Israeli ruscus.

I personally don't think it is cheap and didn't see the episode but I can just visualize........oh...the drama of it all...
sadly joe bloe (aka new flower expert) down the road will come in next week 'knowing' it all from watching this program and ordering flowers for the fiancee:
"uhhh...and none of that cheap lemon stuff with my flowers":boggles:

I love salal... I love greens. I love salal and all kinds of greens mixed together... such great visual interest makes my eyes happy. No it does not look cheap. My eyes know cheap. ;)

Yes you are so right! ugh.
Saw the episode again; planners name is Kevin Covey. And to clarify, it was lemon leaf/salal + other things. Like one of those premade ones.
