Never having done much with my website, I have started putting my flowerchat lessons to work. Since Friday, I have changed my website template(not perfect but a big improvement), removed click to call, removed more than 175 items from my site, submitted a custom logo to be added to it,began editing the catergories , listed my shop and site with the free listings for business at MSN and google, and downloaded the SEO beginners packet. Future plans include posting a picture of my shop, adding pictures of our custom designs(first I need to buy a digital camera, pathetic I know)and getting those important holiday features on. I have asked for a free link to the business district website, it should be on in a few days. Also asking the FD's with websites for a link, already have one for the biggest in town:) Hoping I'm on the right track. Have no $ to spend on this beyond what I already am, so working with what I have. Thanks to CHR, INFINITE, RJD,BOSS, and the rest of the flowerchat family for all the posts I have read and info that is on this site.

I'm sure you already know this, but you don't have to have a digital camera to put images on your site. It is easier, but...

Many of the photos we put on our site have been taken with a high quality film camera. When you get the film processed, just ask for a CD. You don't even have to get prints if you don't want to!

I only point this out because if you're like me, you wait until everything is perfect to make big changes. You just need to get some custom products on your site however you can!

Good luck -- sounds like great things are happening!

Yay! There are soooooooo many florists that could beat Wesley Berry in local search if they just put in a bit of work in minimal site customization and link building.

Make sure to replace "About The Ivy Green" with a real, unique description of your company. Right now it reads:
We are committed to offering only the finest floral arrangements and gifts, backed by service that is friendly and prompt. Because all of our customers are important, our professional staff is dedicated to making your experience a pleasant one. That is why we always go the extra mile to make your floral gift perfect.
Google sees 118,000 sites with the exact same description.

Ivy Green, I see you're already #2 for 'florist washington PA' in Google's natural search. :)

Get your Google Local profile in shape, solicit happy customers to write some reviews and then you'll be on your way up in G Local, too.

(We post this stuff in hopes our fellow local florists will break through the clutter in natural search. Having looked at a bunch of template-based sites over the last few days, my guess is that about to 90% of local florists aren't coming close to reaching their potential.)

Michelle - excellent point about having film converted to digital. Thanks!

ivy, what is your web url?[/quote]
What's a URL? www.theivygreen.com is my website.

Thanks Michelle, I did not know you could do that with film. I really appreciate the tips. I would be trying to make it perfect and that's part of why I hadn't ever attempted it before. I thought the whole website thing was out of my range, and didn't realize that it could be done in smaller steps.
Thanks flowerchat!

Oh, one more thing... if you do add custom products to your TF site, you have to manage those yourself. TF will not take them off just because their time has passed!

Especially if you feature your custom products on your home page (Which is great!) you need to tell them when to change the product feature. This is important also because the promotional e-mails that are automatically sent out feature these home page products. You don't want a 4th of July e-mail going out with your featured custom Mother's Day product!
