...not that I have ever seen one. Or made one.

Has anyone here gotten to do a sympathy tribute for a star?

I was just wondering if I was asked to come up with a design for a sympathy tribute for Michael Jackson or Farrah Fawcett, what would I do?

Its kinda fun to think about and explore.

What would be the best tribute that captures the essence of their life?

What would YOU do? How would you interpret their life through flowers?

Its a fun exercise and I am enjoying thinking about it.

I am ready to see the flowers start piling up at their homes, on their street, along their fences, at places where people feel connected with them.

Those images really make me know that the floral industry is NOT dead, that we have so much to offer, and that flowers carry emotions. Flowers still matter, and especially at a time like this.

Whoever does the flowers, I hope they really are amazing! Whoever you are out there who gets the tap, make us proud!!!

For Farrah ~ Yellow Roses for a Texas gal.
Mor Michael ~ Red Roses with that tacky preserved/glittered baby's breath (for bling)

maybe a glove easel or ghouls or peter pan from neverland. in the end, i wonder what he actually owed but i bet it will come out sooner or later. wonder too what his old man thinks. so much of his freakiness can be laid at joe jackson's feet.

have never done a celebrity casket design, but have seen one. In fact, his shop was mentioned in the florist websites thread.....IIRC.

Flowers& had a huge article on the flowers his shop created for the passing of the legendary Frank Sinatra.

His casket blanket/scarf had to be made twice - one for visitation and one for the funeral....all out of gardenias.

I also recall for the church setting.....He had imported blooming cherry trees

Possibly Elinor from Flowers& can research back issues and post those images. It really is a spectacular presentation.

[EDIT: Forgot to mention the shop and designer - Kevin Lee AIFD - LA Premier Flowers]

I think Anna Nicole would have loved her casket blanket. All that pink with the fur and the feathers looked like something she would have chosen

I remember the Frank Sinatra pieces...absolutely beautiful! Do you remember Jackie O's? I think it was mostly greens and thousands of lily of the valley in the shape of a cross. I, too, am curious what type of spray will be befitting of the King of Pop. I find it remarkable that 2 hugely iconic stars of the 80's both passed away on the same day.

Kevin Lee's shop, LA Premier (which filed BK the Monday after Mother's Day this year) did his funeral. Loads of gardenias and cut dogwood trees. Kevin told me the total tab was $50K and the COGS was almost $49K.

No big celebrity funerals but a few weddings. Always nerve wracking and we never talk about them before, during or immediately after the events. A bunch of florists have gotten themselves into trouble by blabbing to the press. Great way to never get another celebrity wedding.

For Michael I would make a large glove to drape his entire casket. It would be fashioned to lay on his casket to look like one laid it there. I would combine white roses and those large acrylic diamonds. I would also use lots of the mirror headed pins for extra sparkle cause you know his funeral will be spot lit and photographed. Michael invented sparkle, he should be buried in sparkle.
