I've come across many pages similar to this flowers-4u-ca.ca/1846588-flower-atkinson-flowers.html and am wondering whether it does us any good or just benefits (in this case) flowers-4U.ca ???
The address doesn't show up on the map but I think I can fix that if it is of benefit to me.

Should I correct the address so we show up on the map??? Or, should I request that we be removed from their site???
We pretty much own the natural, map and business results for our town but they do show up in some results down about # 10-15 or so.

Do people really click on any of the other ads on the page like those shown? I'd think that anyone used to searching would know that it's just ad clutter.

What do you think?????

Duane, I noticed your site in their last 5 searaches (and comments) do you feel this did you any good?

I don't remember being there.

I likely updated our business information to include our URL for a simple related link. (And added a comment, I don't do that anymore...)

But I think its likely that this is a paid link site that is one of many. During a link building campaign a while ago, I bought links on I think 100 sites and 50 blogs or something, you have probably seen this on some "submit site" links from many related pages.

I did this, because I was finding links to my local competitors on Google, and many of them were listed in sites like this. I know that the links don't carry much weight, and paid links are a bit of an issue, and a very debate-able subject.

These directory sites are typically started using the free databases from dmoz, (from the minimal analysis I have done on it) so all of the strong competitors that I have get a listing for free. DMOZ editor refuses to change our listing from "flowers and gifts" category to "florist" for our city or add us for both. I have re-submitted many times.

On a related not, while DMOZ may be dying, if you are looking for building links, I think they may still have that power, because anyone building a directory can use thier databases to get a start.

Its just a way to get consumers (yea right more like the webmaster) to click on those google ads. I wouldn't waste your time.

I see this in our access logs and i can even see websites trying to get our google ads and yahoo ads to show up.

The content network is a waste.

Besides there is no link juice coming from that page let alone from the front page.

Thanks for your replies. H
