If you are renting or buying any products like Computers, Software, Interfaces etc, chances are you will find a line item labeled "TAX" on your monthly statement.
(If you don't find this line item, then you can ignore the rest of this post!)
That is YOUR STATE'S Sales Tax.
Now go online to the company whose statement you just reviewed and place a "TEST" order for delivery to your state. (You DON'T have to hit the "Finish" button. Just look at the final page.) Are they charging YOU sales tax?
(If the ARE charging sales tax, then you can ignore the rest of this post!)
IF they are charging YOU state sales tax on your shop's transaction with them, but are NOT charging YOU state sales tax as a consumer, then they are almost certainly violating your state's laws.
In addition, this "pick and choose" practice ALSO seems to violate the EQUAL PROTECTION clause of the US Constitution.
Please let us know if you are charged tax on your statement and are NOT charged tax on a test order. I'd love to see if what I have found in NC is true in other locations. (Except Bloomsie's Oregon that has no sales tax!)
All the best,
Bill
