I'm in need of a good charity, and I'm hoping someone may know of a good one. One where my donation will really do some good, not go to excessive administrative costs, with three cents on the dollar going to the cause.

I know, the Red Cross immediately comes to mind, but I have a few issues with them, so would rather try some other.

I had thought of church groups, since these were the source of so much help after our troubles down here, but I'd like to find something right now that's more disaster oriented, and I'll find a good church group for the recovery, which I'm sure will take many years.

Any answers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you considered the ASPCA or your local animal shelter? The animals are victims of disasters too (usually the forgotten ones). I remember the Dog Whisperer going to New Orleans to help rescue animals after the hurricane hit.

One of our FC members is very active with the Franciscan Brother Friars. They have 3 warehouses full of medical supplies & food waiting to go to Haiti. Each container(3x5) costs $150 to ship. They are in need of $$$ to get this down there. We just donated, but they need so much more.
Charlie from Evergreen Florist has made many trips with the Friars to help build homes & provide help to this isalnd.
The address is

Friar Suppliers
c/o Mr & Mrs Rich Garbe
108 n Green Ave.
Lindenhurst,NY 11757

The Garbes take care of the finances. I hope everyone can send something to get this down there.

Thanks Flowerchatter03, the ASPCA is a great charity. I'll check it out and see if they are allowed to help in Haiti, surely there will be some organization that will if they can't, if for nothing else but the livestock that will be so desparately needed.
The ASPCA and local groups from all over the country and beyond were great after Katrina, and yes I agree, the animals are sometimes the last things thought of. I'm a great animal lover and I hate to admit that when I heard about the crisis, I didn't think of them, thanks again.

Wonderful Terri, thank you.
This is great. I know it's hard to get a lot of people in right now, but medicine and supplies are great. Would you possibly have a phone number or email address for the Garbes, or the organization itself? If not, I'll do a search.
