Some day we are going to move South. I know my husband can't take too many more Wisconsin winters. Who knows when this might happen, it's not feasible for a long while but it's fun to think about. Or I could do the snowbird thing.

There are lots of places I could live, but I've been researching cities in the south and based on our criteria, the front runner in my mind is Louisville KY.

I like that it's a small city, but still a city, I like the weather, and where it sits in the country, a days drive from lots of places where family is. I am going to try to get down there to visit within the year. Anyone here know anything about it?

ALSO to make it more interesting, where would you live in the US if you could just pick up and move, and why?

we lived for a time in Oldham county just outside Louisville.

The winters could be just as cold as Michigan but less snow and shorter duration of cold snaps. (but the people just don't know how to drive in snowy weather) Spring definitely came earlier.

The summers were hot with high humidity and I really, really missed not having Lake Michigan (or any lake) for swimming.

We loved the cultural stuff and all the history of the area. Although we did get tired of taking all our guest to Mamouth cave (their requested site seeing trip) We love being that much closer to other places to spend long weekends exploring esp since my hubby is a civil war buff.

The road are NOT laid out in grid style and just wander where ever. :)
and there are wet, dry and moist counties. The first day we went to the grocery to buy beer - the cashiers looked at us like we were NUTS. [at that time oldham county was dry - could be different now] But then we discovered drive thru liquor stores in Louisville (oxymoron ya think?)

The taxation was different with personal property taxes paid on cars etc.

Russ Schmidt has a FS in Louisville, perhaps he can fill you in with more.

I live in Lawrenceburg, Ky which is about an hour from Louisville. This is a very small town so for us, Louisville is BIG! To me ( as compared to here) there is a lot of crime in Louisville but there are lots of places to see and do. Casinos are just 20 minutes from Louisville!! I have always said I was moving to Florida but once I go there, even on vacation, I am ready to come home and see some BLUEGRASS!!! THERE ARE LOTS of flower shops in Louisville. Check out nanz and krafts website, they have LOTS of stuff!!!

I've been homesick for Lexington ever since I left more than 20 years ago. Smaller than Louisville, but lots of arts, UK, basketball, and horses. Beautiful place.

Well, To answer your original question Robin......If I could pick up and move to anywhere.....No question: just two hours away from where I now live..........That would be Charleston, SC

Interesting, Rick! And thanks for answering the question. Actually Charleston is #2 on my list (Austin, TX is #3)

So tell me why you like Charleston! :)

I have a friend who just moved to Louisville, she is very happy there. I hear the economy is better there than around here anyway.

I would move to San Diego. Tomorrow if I could. Yep, it costs a fortune. Yes, there are earthquakes. But it has the least barometric pressure changes in the country. I have horrible migraines, everytime it rains I get a migraine, and my neck problems kick up. Do you know how much it rains in Cleveland? Too much! I have visited San Diego four times, and everytime I go, I feel SO much better physcially. The one time, I actually went an entire week without a migraine. That is huge for me!

And they have amazing restaurants. And REAL Mexican food. Not the fake stuff that we have in Ohio. And you can actually afford to buy avocados there. And their fresh vegetable/fruit selection is incredible.

And it is gorgeous. Ocean, desert, and mountains all in one area.

And there are bike paths everywhere.

And there is incredible shopping. Hello, a four story outdoor mall?

And then there is La Jolla. With one of the prettiest beaches on the continent. And oh yeah, even better shopping than in the city!

OH LORD.....WHY do I love Charleston.

Is there enough available disc space on the FlowerChat servers?

I can sum Charleston up in one word......FUN with a capital F

You have ocean beach, historic areas, great shopping, something different to do every weekend, just to start.

Driving.....It is really hard to get lost in Charleston.....There are three main roads in and out......most all other roads link between those three.

Hopping nightclubs, great restaurants, delicious regional cuisine or your choice of most any nationality,

If you are a history buff, Charleston has enough to keep you satisified for years on end.....

and there is so much more.......
