Love knot

Ok, what exactly is a love knot? I have a bride who wants me to replicate her mothers bouquet and is coming in to see me Wednesday. She said there are love knots in the bouquet. I have heard of them, but have no idea what they look like or how to tie one. Thx!!

Google love knot and hit images. It will bring up some pics. I would imagine her mom had these as something like a jewel accent in her bouquet. Or maybe there is a way to make this out of ribbon???

This is could be what she is talking about, you take a 1.5 picot ribbon tie loose knots hanging from it, very easy to do. you will have to see the pic, but sure that is what she is talking about...

I had a bride request Celtic love knots in hers as someone in her family was Irish I think. It was kind of an intricate knot and it did take a few minutes to hunt down an image and figure it out, but we did it. Too bad the designer sprung this on me at the last minute and didn't tell me sooner when I had more time, sheesh. It took two lengths of ribbon, one looped from the top and one looped from the bottom and they are intertwined in a specific way, guess it made her mom happy.

It used to be fashionable to tie sweetheart roses or tiny bunchlets of babies breath into the love knots to create a showering effect.

Love Knot history

Traditional bows, or love knots, resemble a number eight on its side, and originated in the late 1500's. The sideways eight is also the sign for infinity or eternity. In those days, brides wore dresses covered with love knots and after the wedding, guests would snip them off as souvenirs.

Prior to that, it was considered lucky when guests ripped pieces of the bride's clothing before she left on her wedding trip. I guess the love knots helped to save the dress????
