I am looking to make my own wedding arch. Does anyone know how to go about this project? Is it easier to make it out of wood or metal? I want to keep this to rent out for other weddings. I have a wedding next month that I want to make this for. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Agree with Cheryl - DIY is way over-done, unless you've got the know-how already.

You can also get a pretty decent selection online if you want something a little different.
We use this cedar arbor for beach weddings, bought the short dune/snow (depending on where you live ;) ) and stained it to match. Cost was paid with 2 rentals and we've rented it at least 6 times. Paid $175 & re-stain yearly if needed, easy peasy.

I got one from Giftcraft (in Canada) for 275. and It's metal. Gorgeous. After I get back from my honeymoon I'll post pics of it from my wedding!! woo hoo
It also goes together in two pieces so you can decorate each piece seperate and deliver much easier

Along those same lines, we purchased about 2 or 3 years ago a metal 10' x 10" gazebo (rod iron look) with a waterproof cover.
(it has a slightly pitched roof - not flat).

for those occasions where we are outside, and want a Chuppah for a jewish ceremony -- and our indoor brass on is just not the right "look", we bring out the black gazebo. Grapevines and garland, and attachments of a few flowers -- with 4 drapery panels to make the "cover" going down the rib frames from the center -- and we have a pretty neat Chuppah!

Original cost was $107. on sale. We paid for it in less than the first rental.

We have rented this thing about 10 times in the last about 2 + years. Average rental is good $$$. The frame goes together in less than 10 minutes. Decorating & hanging the cloth takes about an hour. (I'm slow --- and take my time). Tear down is about 10 to 15 minutes.

I would agree it is better to purchase one. However, we get a lot of calls for beach weddings and arches where we designed a few using bamboo. This has worked very well and easy to make.

GREAT Ideas

Thanks everyone for your great replies. I am going to search more online to see where I can get the best deal. Also going to take a ride to Lowe's and Home Depot. I believe it will be a great investment not only for weddings but for display as well. Thanks again! :)

I would definitely purchase one, they are basically under $200 and most likely on sale right now. Plow & Hearth had a nice metal one last year.
A florist friend of mine has a metal arbor and wanted to weight it down, the wind can easily take them. She used two heavy duty window boxes for each side of the arbor, placed the 1/3 rd bottom part of the arbor (it was 3 pieces) in the window boxes and used some kind of cement. Covered the the top of the cement with green sheet moss.
By the time you hang a spray at the top of the arbor, they sometimes get a little heavy.
Good luck in your search. Don't for get to ask for the wholesale price.

We made our own a few years ago. My Dad cut it out of plywood and put a base on each end. It was to sit on top of tall pedestals the church alredy had. We soaked oasis and taped it to the arch then covered it in chicken wire. We still have it but do very few weddings. It is EXTREMLY HEAVY! I also think one from Lowes is probally a better idea. Metal tubing maybe isn't so heavy.
