This probably should have been in the commentary forum, but here goes anyway.

Some of you may be aware the 800Flowers has added Martha Stewart to their stable... with The Martha Stewart For 1-800-Flowers.com Program.

Several interesting thoughts came to me while reading the "overview" I received in todays mail. First a few things that struck me as odd, then I'll break down a few others in the catagories 800 listed them in the "overview". (some of you may have received this as well, so just humor me).

First let me commend 800 for the average price point of $69.00. (price range of $49-149.00)

Enuf of that...what are they thinking? 12 "exclusive containers" for 30 different designs! And the flowers...Ranunculus???Hydrangia???Freesia???Peony's???Callas??? are they thinking folks will stock this stuff waiting for their orders? Nice flower yes, but how many Bloomnet shops stock these ???

But wait, they're going to use both online and offline marketing channels, banner ads, email, search, tv, radio, PR and direct marketing. Oh and a "launch *event*" in NYC, and the items will be incorporated into the Marthe show...

Are they this desperate?? Or is Norton now working at 800?

This does not seem unrealistic to me at all.

They've got the cash cow, "FWOAC", just a LITTLE different spin on the same o' that has robbed this industry for years. Just keep milking it for all it's worth, I'd do the same thing if I were them.

Hopes and prayers is what most florists run their business's on these days anyway. 800 is just giving them some more hope, and they will pay for it.

Even the smallest or newest florist can meet those criteria.

I just went to 1800 flowers website and I found this little ditty, and it scared the crap out of me.

Whoa...I hope I never get one of those to fill. I still have dungaree pant containers from the old owners that scare the crap out of me. I let them hang around to remind myself how long awful sh it can sit on a shelf.....

I haven't laughed out loud at the computer in at least 20 minutes. Now I'll be laughing all day!

Wasn't going to bring this up, but BOSS forced my hand...

Last week, we had a visit from our local BMT rep. Keep in mind, we get letters asking us to rejoin once or so every 6 months.
Murray (the Rep. - notice I did NOT say OUR Rep...) gave me the Martha offer. He echoed the points you said Mark, with NO mention of the 'Criteria' part (of course...). What perked up my ears was the top 10% line. If that is TRUE, then it is quite conceivable one COULD, MIGHT, MAYBE make some coin on the Martha orders. Hmmm...I said. But then reality set in and I asked about the 29.99 It's your Stinkin' Day bouquets. He said "all that has changed...our average order is $60 (- something) dollars, and the way "it" works has changed." Hmmm I said again.

SO... riddle me this Batman: If the Martha program is being offered to only the top 10%, then WHY was I offered it - and I'm not even in BMT!

To be quite honest, I was considering re-joining for January, then chucking it after Mom's Day... I have always said the only two times a year an 800 shop can make $$$ is V-day and M-day.
Regarding Martha, it SEEMS that whatever she touches, turns to gold...so........

Dunno...

Maybe you were offered it because you were a very good member and filler back when you belonged. Not sure, could be all smoke and mirrors. I got the offer, too. I will be calling and asking questions about it. I think Martha is a GOOD THING for the floral industry. She promotes the flowers I like to use and her arrangements are just what the person who buys flowers for themselves like.....It may be a pipe dream, but I don't want to look back in two years and say gee I should have jumped on that wagon when it came by to pick me up. You can always drop it if it don't work....

Top 10 % is a bunch of crap.... Spoke to my 800 rep about this... ( also a good friend and the only reason i am even a member ) they are starting from the top and working their way down until they have enough shops... Better than that some lady calls me from headquarters asked if i received the packet i said yes i did and looked it over and told her i was not interested... She said i will keep receiving offers to join the program until the get enough members... I've been asked 3 times since christmas...
