I love matsumoto asters, but the crooked necks when they come in are a pain in mine!!! Any hints from any of you on staightening , other than wiring???

I wonder if you could take several (since the stems are so skinny) and put them in a gerb tube before you hydrate them. Otherwise I just tuck them into designs if I have to use them, but really don't like to because not only are they crooked, they are so fragile and I'm afraid the heads will pop off before they get to the customer!
Mat asters are geotropic, gravity takes its toll on them when stored horizontal. The bent stem is the result of the cells in the stem growing longer on one side. Once this happens you can not reverse it. Look to purchase mat asters that have been shipped in proconas or a soon as they arrive at your supplier. Avoid asters that have been stored in boxes, process then as soon as received and you should have straighter stems.
Thanks, Jonquil--leave it to a wholesaler to know the answer! Now I know that there's no easy way to straighten the little buggers, I'll just wire in silence: no bellyachin'... I will ask for proconas next time...
