As a restaurant co-owner in China (with my wife), this doesn't surprise me at all. Many food materials are tainted over there.
For example, we have had a difficulty getting untainted chicken meat. Some chicken legs are injected with water (or some kind of liquid) to make them heavier. Some chicken breast are bleached by some kind of supposedly "safe" chemical to make it look whiter.
To call Melamine stuff "contamination" is quite misleading. No Chinese people, according to my wife, believes this is an accident. They believe that most milk companies, not just this one, are adding various kinds of chemicals to their milk to boost their Nitrogen content.
And of course Bloomz is right. China doesn't waste people's money on such a stupid thing like a "fair" trial in which the life or death is determined by money and clueless jury.
