Geez, I thought I was pretty articulate until I read that. :iamwith:

Although, some of the words listed drive me crazy when mis-pronounced.

Right or wrong, I refuse to pronounce Herb with the "h" like Martha Stewart...it just seems too pretentious!

Do you mean like hu-rb? or without the "h" - I didn't hear Martha say it. I personally like it with the "h". I try everytime to say it without and it just sounds funny coming out of my mouth.

But then again it took me a looooong time to pronunce "Arkansas"! Incidentally, why is Kansas "Kan-sis" but Arkansas is "Ar-kan-saw"????

Things that make you go hmmm...

Yes, Martha Stewart seems to over pronounce the "H"...Yes Martha, you are too smart for all of us peasants.

I never understood the Kansas/Arkansas thing either.

Those of us who live in Kansas pronounce the state Arkansa"w" and our river the Ar-kansas River. It is said that the French who settled Arkansas used the French sound to make an official pronounciation. Kansas was also named by the French in reference to the Kansa indians. The "s" added is the french plural. Our state dropped the French sound for an English pronounciation. Sorry for the high jack, back to regular programming.

Oh, how my skin crawls at some of the mispronunciations of words! I'm guilty of some myself, and after MD and this prom, I'll study the list more carefully in order to correct the errors of my ways.

Love this! Thanks for sharing.

I finally had an opportunity to go over the entire list and found myself nodding like a bobble head. ;)

There are few things that drive me to distraction than mispronouncing words (little kids and people with English as a second or third language excepted). It takes all my self control to not correct people (that would be rude).

And, I agree... axe the aks. ;)
