Like I have for the last 3 holidays, I will order after the codification deadline, once they are on sale...with free shipping:)

Insert naughty explicative here______________ .

I voted for the "less...protesting order gatherers...", but wanted to click on others too. The containers are too expensive and, IMHO, too unattractive this year. I'm seeking other sources for containers for this holiday and for all of the days to come.

We didn't codify and won't order any. To expensive for what you get and while we sold quite a few the last couple of holidays it was because except for the ones to fill incomings we pushed them in the shop. I now realize what a mistake that is. Why not push a shop special with a better margin. Started really working for us instead of them (ws).

have a great day ,

Ditto what Connie said AND....
OG's suck, wal Mart sucks, over-priced containers suck (especially since they include some promotional costs in the price of the container and then use it to compete against us!!!)

Mikey! Why would you even think that??? After all, there has to be someone out there that likes those vases :)
Actually, we may consider buying one of them; there now I said it! BUT it will still be LESS than in the past!!!

I am...

...generally ordering the codified product (all of FTD, and SOME of TEL) strictly based on the historical sales from years past.

I bought the FTD MD's during their 20% off special. Was going to by the min. on them anyway, so a no-brainer there. You have to remember, if you are in a major market, you will get more wire ins for these codified product - especially during a big holiday like MD. Do I like the discounted business - NO. So, to combat that aspect of the biz, I buy fresh product smart, use assem. line design, and boom - they are done. To our local customers, we try to sell the codified product with an upgrade - usually $10~$15. I'd say 75% go for the upgrade. Some special are even WRAPPED to go...again, based on HISTORY of our sales, we can do this.

I have REDUCED the quantity of each codified product for 2005. I am (like all of you) sick of being stuck with leftovers - that have to then be PUSHED out the door. So, if I sell out, I sell out. And, NO...I do NOT get sucked in to the "last minute codified product sales pitch" to get more product. I fell for it ONCE a few years ago at Christmas...never again.

We always ordered many or all the WS holiday containers and even everyday ones at that. That has all changed. I took the plunge and started ordering ZERO of their holiday containers, whichever WS I happened to be a member of at that time, and even in the clueless days of belonging to both.

The impact is non-existent. WE are the ones who lead and guide our customers. Oh yes, many do ask for the pictures, those wonderful glorious (sarcasm intended) selection guide pictures. BUT, we take the lead and they follow and it's really no big deal.

I guess I should have taken my own advice when I was recently asking about how to wean customers off of the selection guide addiction.

So BOSS, I think I will copy your idea as I do like one of the items, but hate getting all those dotcom orders for them trying to steal my profit on using them for wire ins. Also the savings with last minute deals and no shipping!!!

do like LUC....

Simple trick...as used by Luc....UNLESS the value sent (whether by dot.con, or other) IF it doesn't fit in YOUR price schedule, then it's too bad for dot.con and "others".....I DO have to say that ANY ORDER from ANY REAL FLORIST is filled according to the old day rules (full value)...anything and EVERYTHING ELSE is handled by way of the refuse continer (if it doesn't fit)
We are basically the ONLY FULL SERVICE FTD shop in our immediate area...we're expecting to sell out again.....

specials

We buy the products based upon the historical demand for it. It is foolish not to carry something the consumer is willing to buy.

Teleflora could improve the situation for many members by reducing the minimums from 24 to 12. Less "risk" on the part of smaller to medium shops with reguards to leftovers. I don't see the problem with the change considering they are usually packed in 12's anyway.

I always buy befor the codification date so my florists friends can better serve their customers. As for the chance of an OG or their like sending me an order as a result of the codification. I look at the bright side. It's just another chance to throw a monkey wrench in their operation and dissapoint one of THEIR customers.

I do wonder tho, how many shops will fail the Test Orders on these "specials"?

I totally agree...

It would only HELP the MEMBER by having smaller min. counts on the specials...and, we're a large shop! I would be MORE willing to carry a "questionable" item if I didn't have to by 24 of them.

Yea...they are almose ALWAYS shipped in 12 packs anyway...

Buy what can be sold AFTER the holiday

I buy the items that are marketable after a particular holiday, i.e. this year's VD Teleflora Ruby vase will work well for 40th wedding anniversaries.

Good "bump"!!.....

More - We think they're great and want to be ready to fill lots of incomings
this is part of one of the question of the poll, and I found it a little over exhuberant...it sort of "suggested" that we ordered these products ONLY to fill incoming orders...and in OUR case at least, we've ALREADY sold some of these products, because, IMHO, NONE of them qualified for the "ugly container" syndrome, and are ALL fairly high quality, and unique.
We're "hoping" to have stuff left FOR THE HOLIDAY....but, won't re-order the product JUST to have it to fill maybe orders!!

I can't vote because I don't have a WS, but I thought I'd post a lil stat.

Last M-day 1800flowers did 900,000 orders the week leading up to Mday.
Proflowers did 500,000, and that is up from 200,000 the year before. Proflowers, will pass 1800flowers within the next year in online flower sales.

Yeah a certain % of the above was sent to those two by OGs.
