Sad to say, I am only developing my Mother's Day designs now. I know, I know. Spank me!

I am pretty much done with them, but I am having a very hard time pricing this one.

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated! It has not gone through photoshop yet, hope you can see it. There are 2 fugis, three roses, 2 carns, 2 spray rose, 2 palmetto, lily grass weave. It is a 9" ceramic vase, my cost um.....about 2.50 or less.

Thanks!

Linda

I would say somewhere between 50-60....Not sure the expense of the container...I would venture to say more like 60 with the fancy weaved green...that had to take some time to do...

I would trust Cathy's say on the price..I don't have a huge amount of experience with the woven greens thing...are you sure you want to be putting that into a high volume holiday like MD...Looks like it takes a huge amount of time...Can they be done in advance?

I've gotten that lily grass weave down to about three minutes with wire. I do those in down time, so I have quite a few in different colors, even have one with raffia.

I only have 12 of those vases, got them on a close-out for VD and then forgot to use them! I already have the weaves done for those. I imagine it would last just as long as lily grass does, months.

I'm sure you recognize the theme, Cathy! Told you it would eventually show up in my designs - BIG THANKS

Okay guys, am I being dense? Do you think this is NOT a good Mother's Day design? I don't want it to scream sympathy. I could just put it on my site for Home Sympathy, a category that does not YET exist on my site. I have it out for sale in the cooler at $65. Lots of oohs and ahhs but it's been sitting there for two days!

When I get in this evening......I am going to critique this design..........I see some things that MIGHT affect how it is being percieved.

Linda,
I think it is stunning, but I don't see it as MD arrangement. Ofcourse that's just here in my area. You know your clientele. No harm having it on your site anyway. I have things just to show we can do it, but unfortunately, it's the same basic designs that sell best. I hate when I do something creative and people just LOVE it in the cooler.....and the buy something else. Happens all the time, but I still think it's good to show alternatives. I will be interested in Ricky's critique .

In looking at this design...........keeping in mind, that what I see may be a result of the angle of the design pictured.

Your 'wings' appear too far apart...........The 'halo' created by the leptospermum and pussy willow looks to be off center. Your two spider/fuji chrysanthemums are on the same eye level. The bi-secting line of the lily grass appears to be hiding other floral materials. Lastly, the way I see the design.......your floral materials appear too spaced apart in general.

love the concept..............love the idea...........practice on the execution.

Hi Ricky, thank you for so much input. Unfortunately, the concept and idea were not mine, they came from CHR! This design started out with the "wings" coming straight out, one facing forward, one facing backward, like a line of beauty. But as it progressed, it started morphing. There was never supposed to be an angel, it just happened, so then I moved the "wings" to make them really look like wings.

"Halo" . Hah! You're right, I NEVER even saw that until just now. I didn't intend for there to BE a halo.

All of this is what worries me the very most about any future competition etc. I let things happen, I seldom plan it out. I generally just use what materials I have on hand, and especially for holidays, I use what I know will have a good availability.

I am going to redo this with your suggestions and see what comes of it, (since it's STILL in my cooler!) I'll post it here.

But still, should I drop it as a Mother's Day design?

Thanks everybody, so so much!
Linda

Linda, I don't really see it as a Mother's Day design but that does not mean others won't. I think it makes a great sympathy tribute, and perhaps first communion or baptism.

I wonder if you couldn't sell it as a Mother's Day remembrance arrangement for someone to place on a grave, maybe a less expensive version.

Linda, I really liked it. In fact, said to myself, AHA! As I have an order for tomorrow from a good customer who asked for something "exotic" to send to a friend just diagnosed with breast cancer. Even the color is perfect! I might try something similar, taking Ricky's comments into account. Thanks for the timely post. And I agree with Joan's comment above. My market would put it in the $50-60 range.

Joan,
What great ideas!

I think I'm scrapping it for Mother's Day offerings, but definately for home sympathy or remembrance especially! (Once I have it more balanced)

Connie, I'm so glad it gave you inspiration.
