This is of an Army soldier in Iraq with his tiny 'plot' of grass in front of his tent. It's heartwarming! Here is an Australian soldier stationed in Iraq , stationed in a big sand box. He asked his wife to send him dirt (Aussie soil), fertilizer, and some grass seed so that he can have the sweet aroma, and feel the grass grow beneath his feet. When the men of the squadron have a mission that they are going on, they take turns walking through the grass and the Aussie soil -- to bring them good luck.

If you notice, he is even cutting the grass with a pair of a scissors. Sometimes we are in such a hurry that we don't stop and think about the little things that we take for granted.

It brings tears to my eyes, this story. God bless them every one.

May they be allowed to all come home soon to mow their own grass.

Flame, I see you have a new guy in Australia... Rudd.

Yeah should be quite interesting Victoria. Our labour government in the past have always been real bad for our country and have let things been very run down. John Howard was in though for 11yrs and all the young people that were just born when the labour government was in charge did not know the damage it did....and they all voted for Rudd. It was quite a landslide really....but see how we go....time can only tell and to tell you the honest truth I am not really worried....they are all the same!

Sonya, Sonya, Sonya......I don't want to start an argument with you over Politics ( although I LOVE a good debate) however do a bit of research and you will find that the past Labour Governments basically took over power from the Liberals AFTER they "stuffed up" our Economy during their terms. The WORST treasurer in Australia's history was Johnny Howard and when Bob Hawke and Paul Keating took over in the early 80's there was a bit of a mess to clean up...

If it is belived that labour was solely responsible for High interest rates - why wasn't the outgoing Government able to keep them in check recently?? They really did contradict themselves didn't they?? - On one hand telling us not to Risk Labor, then telling us that the interest rate increases during the past two years were out of their control?? - Go figure, wasn't his last election win based on a promise to keep interest rate low?? I am predicting that interest rates WILL Definatly go up again - Not because of who is in charge NOW but because of things that Howard and Costello did during their time such as The first home owners grant and The baby Bonus scheme. They have given the average family "bonus" money ( great vote winners for them in the past) but unfurtunatly these will become a major liability to us all in the future.... More spending money in the publics pocket creates high interest rates and this wil be a burdon to us all shortly.

Howard and Costello scare tactics during the campaign were based on the High interest rates of the mid 80's - When they took over power 11 years ago these had already been in a rapid decline and they have both been fortunate to remain in power while Australia was in a growth Period. The only reason that Howard won that election then was because Keating had just taken over from Hawke and people felt he had become too "full" of himself. They have only managed to stay in power because "times" were on their side.... Terroist bombings, Children overboard etc.. They managed to manipulate the population into thinking it wasn't good to change the Heads of our Country while these things were going on.

Did you know that if they won that election that there were a few more possible surprises instore for us... Firstly Costello wanted to up the GST to 20% and get rid of Medicare....Yea, things were much better under the Liberals - NOT...! The election was Won by Rudy over the Work choices legislation, something that I also feel was put over us by the the former pm and treasurer and if they had been given the greenlight by another election win, thing would be much worse in the future. I know as a business owner I should of loved it but all of the Liberals policies weere directed towards bigger businesses and not us small guys. Look at Price fixing by the Big multi-nationals such as Woolies, Anywhere else in the world it would be an offence for them to do business the way they do but here they have been getting away with this practice. Howard has promised and promised to bring in legistation to combat it but failed to do so.

The fact of the matter is that it was definatly time for a change, Rudd has proven to be full of enthusiasim and I think for now he will do an excellent job. He is open to change and ideas ..something that Howard nor Costello in recent times were not ( unless they thought of it first) Funny, the exact reason on how they came to be in power was also their final undoing.

Sorry .. didn't mean for this to get so long...I just get a bit carried away with the subject.... I'm amazed that I didn't give you a "Kevin 07" sticker the day you came in..... most people I know have been given one.....

just to satisfy my curious mind.......

Howard is out and Rudd is in as PM. Howard is a conservative, correct? What is Rudd, a liberal? also when you use the term "Johny Howard" as a Treasurer, is Johnny and John, the same person?

I take it the Labour party would be similar to the Labor party in Great Britian, which makes these parties comparable to our Democrat Party, (not democratic). One of your sentences throws me off when you refer to the Labour Govt taking over from the Liberals. can you clarify?

Costello is or was Treasury Minister?

Geebf, you hit on some interesting topics in your post. First of which is government intervention generally "stuffs up" things when they try to help. I too believe this because this is what happens most often when Govt tries to help, they create a false market which over time needs correcting.

Back on topic. Flame, that is a great story, wouldn't it be something if every tent had a bit of home out in front?

Who says flowers (plants) aren't important (grass is part of our industry) in our daily lives?

I tend to think that its a balance - too much of either one is too much (and 11 years seems to have been too much)
Labour generally spends too much, having its roots as the 'union party' (although Keatings' governance was a bit of a break from that)
Liberal tends to not spend enough, having its roots as the 'business(mans) party'
Its time to push the balance back the other way, and I think work choices was the straw that broke the camel's back.

But imagine! Peter Garrett as Minister for Environment, under a Labour government! You would have laughed and laughed if someone had predicted that 10 years ago!
(Former lead singer of popular band Midnight Oil and environmentalist)

Yes, 'Little Johnny' is John Howard, outgoing PM and Federal treasurer in Liberal's previous run, what, in the 1980s?
Yes, Costello is the outgoing Treasurer.

(Umm, sorry guys - I will try to chime in with something on topic one of these days!)

Ah its all good. I am definately not one for politics and I understand that change is always a good thing and if Rudd proves to be wonderful, then I certainly hope that he is. 11yrs is a long time to be in office and most times people do get very tired and uninterested. All I know was that the first 11yrs of us being in business ( with Bob Hawke/Keating ) were not as successful or prosperous as the 2nd 11yrs that we had been in business (Johnny). BUT times change and just like I said before...it will be interesting what happens to the country from now on.

Hey guys... Gee I think I have started something..??!!

Umm.. Havn't got a lot of time right now but to answer the first question.. ..John Howard was Treasurer during the 70's.

Hey I am not a Labor party faithful ( but maybe I do tend to swing towards them I guess) however when Rudd has had his go and I think it is time for a change again I WILL vote Liberal... It is not good for the country to have the same party in power... change brings prosperity.....

Hey Flowergirrl... I notice you are in Brissie... Where abouts are you from??
