My dad needs a new truck, his 1991 just gave up so he is driving my car until he gets something new. We have a conflict because I am trying to keep him on a strict budget so we can get some debts paid off, he wants a new shiny one. SO - he likes Toyota Tundra and Chevy Silverado. He tows a boat and trailer which is a little more than 6K lbs. I don't understand all the engine stuff - but will a V4 engine on a 2005 Tundra do what he wants?

Thanks in advance for helping through this.

I know only enough to be dangerous, but I seriously would shoot for a V6. I would think a Chevy 1/2 ton would be OK, ensuring it has a tow package (that may actually be standard on such a truck). Not familiar with Toyota at all. It's just hard to imagine a 4 cyl. pulling a 3 ton boat, but like I said, I don't know a whole lot. Good luck! (Oh, and if you're in the market for a rusty early '80's Chevy 4 x 4 with low miles, give me a call! :) )

Donna,
There are lots of deals to be had right now. Lots & lots of stuff available.

To tow what you stated, you need a V-6, with a heavy duty towing package. No way would I tow a boat with anything smaller. Chevy makes a big V6 & a smaller V6. Both are great runners. No problems at all.

i cannot speak to the Toyota, because I have never had one to tow anything. people that I know say that the engines are great.

Towing puts a great strain on the transmission as well as the engine.
We towed a trailer and a race car with a 6 cyl Dodge (3 speed on a column) for a # of years, with no problems. dodge, unfortunately, stopped making this van. Engine is still available in some of their trucks. You may want to look at Dodge also.

Good luck.

You may want to look at the cost of a new one versus a used one!

New one....0% for 60 months GM has that offer in our area. May want to look at all dealers.

Used one 7.9% or higher for 60 months! Your monthly payment may be the same as a new one.

Getting a new one your warrantee may be better than getting a used one.

Negotiate Negotiate Negotiate...They need your businesss. THe ball is in your court.

Donna,

Don't let him count out a used GM Certified Truck. My husband has been selling Chevys for over 20 years and I love my used Blazer. It was like new, even had the new car smell just had mileage on it. The savings on a one year old vehicle is amazing. They have a wonderful web site and often ship to customers in other states. www.JackMaxton.com, hubbies name is John Spivey if you have any questions that you would like more help with.

Our last three trucks have been Dodges. Heavy duty 1/2 ton, hd towing packages (26' travel trailer), plows snow - lots of it....
All have been super trucks and yes, they did have Hemis
