Today I had my first class at our local library- Jeanie (in charge) had expected around 25 I ordered a little extra, and I'm glad I did because around 37 showed up!

the Kids (from 5 to 13) were great! they were more engaged than I thought they would be.. and very happy to get flowers at the end.:)

I can't wait to do it again!

Millions of new customers

A big light bulb went off the other day while I was looking at Royer's website.
I saw something truly inovative and forward thinking. They have a Kids Club! They have an entire section on their site dedicated to this club- easy downloadable coloring pages, announcements of workshops they can sign up for.. all kinds of things.

While I was looking at all the different ways they were reaching out to the kids in their community, I realized THIS .. THESE KIDS, right under our noses are our future!
here we are pounding our head against the wall, anxious about WS, and big box stores stealing our customers.. when all along here are millions of youngsters THAT GET IT already! They get that flowers are pretty and they get that they make you feel good when given and recieved.

all we have to do is reach out to them and nurture what's allready there. and no one else can do it but us, the local florists. We have the unique position of being close to them, able to go into schools, and build a relationship-and with that relationship comes trust and loyalty. Our competition is too big- too impersonal.

OMG!! the potential...WOW
Millions of new customers..just waiting for us to give them some attention.

up date

I had my first young lady from the class come in with Both parents (dad got bored in the car and eventually came in) take the quiz (A+) and get her 2 focal flowers! yay
Both parents thanked me a couple times for having the class, bought a couple things and said they would be back! It was their first time in my shop.:)

Congratulations Tracy!!! So nice to hear that ffk worked so quickly getting parents into your shop. When those kids' parents need flowers, they are going to call you because you made a lasting impression on the kids as well as the parents. It's nice to see something so positive during such crazy times (especially this week, we need it!). Thank you for sharing your experience.

Yes my local wholesaler is with the program- Greenleaf in Reno/Sparks. They were great!
Thank you Twiggy for the kind words. Greenleaf is commited to the FFK program and I agree with you Kids do GET It! With so many programs being taken out of our schools that teach our children about culture and beauty, this is the opportun time to step in with a little horticulture education.

If you aren't already trained to give Flowers For Kids classes, call your local wholesaler and ask them if they will offer a training class. Another way to be trained if there aren't any classes available is telephone training. This is convenient and can fit into most anyones schedule. You can reach Erlene 207-415-2273.

Thanks Janna :) When Greenleaf has their next design show I would be happy to get up and say something (and hopefully light a match under) the audience.
Btw.. when WILL the next show be in Reno????

That would be great!

We don't have anything scheduled for this year, But I will be sure and let you know when we do.

thank you again
janna

Janna, thanks to wholesalers like Greenleaf & Delaware Valley, we florists are able to bring this wonderful program to many children and promote our industry. I wish more wholesalers would see the long term benefits of participating in this program (but that's another thread!). Kudos to Greenleaf for your support!!:yourock:

I've read a few threads about how business starts to slow down this time of the year. Well instead of re-arranging the shop for the 4th time or reorganizing your ribbon rack again, do something to bring awareness to your shop. Now is the best time to become trained as a Flowers for Kids teacher that way you are ready to promote your business in the fall when kids are back at school. There are many great posts about FFK here on FC or you can call Erlene or myself for more info.

Purplegirl,

You are right on the Money, and speaking of money, this will be the best investment you can make towards the future of your business. What other marketing program supplies you with free product. Our growers are fantastic and want all of us to be successful. Working together we can and will continue to grow our businesses and keep the floral industry a vital part of our lives.

less than 8 weeks and school will be in session again. So do I hear those phones ringing ... making appointments for a training class?

:)

Janna, kotos to you and your company for being a part of this program. I have done FFK for the past school year and it is amazing. The wholesaler who was in the program and provided my flowers for the classes went out of business (Seagroatts)
BUT, I have a great relationship with another wholesaler and when I told him about the program he volunteered to donate the flowers at his cost!!! What a wonderful man he is, because of him I was able to keep doing my classes with BEAUTIFUL flowers.
Seagroatts told me that because we live in such a small area and our classes are so small that the flowers I got were donated out of his pocket as well and when he had so many classes going out he would call the farms and they would send him some free boxes of flowers, but as far as each individual class they were out of his own pocket, not the farms.

Again, a wonderful program that reaches our next buyers (children) and current buyers (employees at schools and parents) all at once, for little more than our time to do the class.
