Welcome! I'm assuming you're a new owner? Did you have previous floral experience prior to your new venture?

What do you feel you can contribute to the community?
This is a pretty important question you overlooked - I'm sure there is something you feel you can contribute, please share...

I agree with Tracy, pretty big question just jumped over....

Please add something that you may be able to contribute to our community, it is very important as it is a give and take kind of place.....we need more givers and less takers and lurkers...

Well since we have only been in our shop for 3 months and our back ground is...well lacking in the florist industry. I'm not sure what I/we could offer other then our own opinions. We have a lot to learn and what better place to learn from then others that have already been there.

The shop when we bought was dated in the 80's so we have been working hard to update the overall look and feel of the shop, along with adding some technology to bring it into the 21st century.

Some of the things we are working over and over again is; WS's and web design.

Do you have employees that have taken floral design (courses, design schools, seminars?)
What is available to you to forward yourself as the new owner such as educational opportunities. Do you wish to just "own" or learn the design aspect?

Hi Mo -

Welcome to FC. I do see your site is not currently up and running except for a home page - http://www.myers-watson.com/ and invite you to take a look at the one being offered by our FC Host - Florist 2.0.

Have any of your BF Life (Before Flowers) skills helped you with your new endeavor?

Well, you've found a terrific resource. I'm always curious about a non-florist person who takes on ownership of a flowershop ...What made you choose the floral industry?

Once again, you have found a great spot for the help you're seeking! There are many here who can share advice to help you.

Look forward to hearing from you again!
:)

Mo,

Is this your first business venture???

What was your previous occupation??

What made you decide to buy a flower shop, I am always intrigued by people who have no experience in flowers buying a flower shop???

Sry it took me a little bit to reply to everyone.

This is our 2nd venture. My wife is a nurse and has been doing custom gift baskets out of the house for the last couple of years and I'm an electronics tech. We have 2 little ones, One 6 and the other 2. Both of our family's have had businesses in the past. Her family was do computers for many years and I grew up in the restaurant business. (food, flowers....its kind of the same) We wanted something that we could do as whole family.

She runs the shop and I stick mostly to the back office. Well at least until I can tell the difference between a carnation and a...well any other flower LOL

We have 2 employees at the time, one designer that has more of a learn style and a delivery drive/helper.

We are a full retail shop so to answer the ? "own or learn the design aspect" we would like be able to learn both and use them as needed. We have a lot of customers that see something they like and would like to have it copied or something like it, but to have our own when it comes to weddings and what not. (the shop hasn't done a wedding in over 3 yrs...we now have 5 1/2 booked)

I hope I've answer some of ya'lls ?'s

Chris
