So as you may or may not know, I am on the board of directors for the New Mexico State and Regional Florists Association...boy thats a mouth full.

Anyway, we are wanting new members. At the last board meeting, I suggested we have a face book page as well as a website.
Guess who got put with the task of figuring it all out. Which is fine, but now I would like to see some examples of associations web sites as well as face book pages.

Anyhoo-
Could you direct me to some really good sites and face book pages.

And also, what would appeal to you as far as a web site?

And does a non commerce web site cost less than a commerce?

Thanks for all and any info.

Yes, but I still would like suggestions of nice facebook pages and Floral association sites.

what's the difference between a page and a group. These are the things I need to understand.

Thanks I do get my own subscription of Flowers&, just never have time to read it! thanks for the tip

Quick facebook lesson:

Personal Page - For an individual. People become "friends" - you have to confirm friendship. A business should NEVER set themseleves up as a personal page. First it is against Facebook rules. Second, you don't want your customers to have to confirm friendships. Many businesses set themselves up as personal pages. This is not good!

Business Page - People can become fans. Anyone can be a fan. Goal is to get as many fans as you possibly can.

Group - Usually for organizations, associations, or groups of individuals or businesses with common interests. Members join groups, interact, discuss things, have events.

One quirk - you have to have a personal page to set up the business page. I tried to do it without, and it was a nightmare. They say you can, but it is awful.

Do a search on facebook for "floral associations" you will see pages and groups. Look at them, you will see the groups and pages. Look at them and you will see the differences.

Hope this helps.

Mark has an updated list of the Floral Assoc sites on FloristWare.com.

Non-ecommerce does cost less on average - but it really just comes down to what you want the site to provide and how much work is involved.

It's been more than a year since I surveyed the floral association sites, but I remember being very unimpressed. Most were horribly out of date in content and style. This could be your opportunity to set the bar for what an association site should be.

Ryan, Please Pm me with prices and all info. And I do believe we will be going with an ecommerce site.
I will need to present this info to the board.

Shannon,

Just curious...what do you plan to sell as an association? Memberships? Do you want members to be able to pay for courses, etc?

As far as FB goes, I just switched from a "group" page to a "fan" page. One of the main reasons was that all my posts that I make on FB automatically go to my Twitter account as well. SAF is a "group" but our Wisconsin Upper Michigan Floral Association is a "fan" page.

That would be my question as well Sandy........Unless you were selling a specific product(s), I do not see why an association would need e-commerce.

Yes, we want our members to be able to just pay their dues on line.
As well as pay toward their certification, book, any donations for scholarships, auction items, etc.
It would make the secretaries job so much easier. We are all volunteer, so anything that makes things more smoothly would be nice.

Shannon be sure to give Iowas facebook a look pioneerwholesale has it listed in this thread. There's pic from our 2009 convention. It was held at the Newton speedway track. We also have a website with our newsletter on it. www.iowafloristsassociation.com I don't know anything about setting these things up, but I sure like to use them.

I was just looking at FAR's facebook page. I like it!
I wish I could have gotten to be more involved in FAR, Denver is just too far away!

Shannon,

Email me at [email protected] and we'll talk about details. I'm a fan of florist associations, so I think we can work out a good deal.
