well, I have been training Natalie for about 2 years and she's becoming quite the designer.

The tools I have used to help have been, JTV, Flowerschool, and the AIFD book of terms....

flowerschool is on Ubloom. It's Leann of the floral design institute

If you want a book get the AIFD book, has lots of descriptions and illustrations.

One of the most COMPREHENSIVE book on floral design instruction I ever read and saw belonged to my former employer......Edith Rish........from the Hixson's School of Floral Design. I am not sure if they still have that particular book in print or not.

Teleflora headquarters may still have a few copies of the old Redbook and/ or AFS design instruction books available.

Florist's Review Library always has an extensive selection of books. A basic design instruction book series that I like is Profil Basics. I like seeing the mechanics behond some of the European styles.

Other than those, the only other book on basic design that I know of is one of Hitomi's - I cannot recall the title of the book though.

The AIFD Guide to Floral Design is a complete book dedicated to the floral industry, it is filled with diagrams, index of terms and everything you need to know about the industry.
It covers some floral history, design styles, term definitions, tools and products, go to AIFD.org to review it. Check your local wholesaler they may have it, or call headquarters for a copy.
Good Luck!!!!

I agree with everyone about the AIFD book, it is an unbelievable resource!

Also, I have far better luck with Borders and Barnes & Noble online...the stores never have what I am looking for. I usually order several books and send back the ones I don't care for. Even Amazon.com has much to offer!

The AIFD book is exactly what I am looking for. Thank you so much. Wow, now if only I was AIFD I could save a handful of money!! Ordering it from the AIFD is probably the best price right? or not? It is $89.00 plus 12.00 Shipping. I'm sure it is worth every penny though.

Thanks all for the recommendations.
