I have a family requesting 29 loose long stem roses in water tubes to be laying on top of the casket. Each rose will have some greens and filler tied together with ribbon. They have to remain secure through the visitation, service, and to the cemetery afterwards over a 2 day period. I thought about decorating a fireside basket and laying them in the basket and securing the basket to a wire saddle with rubber feet. They don't want foam or a vase of any kind.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We have done this previously also, but never used any container, just a tied bouquet of the individually stemmed flowers. Ours were not meant to have greens & filler with each rose, but to make a bouquet of greens, fillers and the roses, with a generous bow and streamers draping over the tube end of the stems.

If they are meaning to take the bouquet apart after, for distribution with greens/filler to 29 family members, I would suggest a subtle wrap around each bouquet, like a flower cone. You could use a wide ribbon/tulle ... otherwise, trying to get those bouquets apart could be messy. I'd also suggest oasis in the water tubes ... it may hold water longer than just plain water w/the roses.

I never conisdered a container for this type of bouquet, but a fireside, handle removed and used upside down would probably work very well... add some felty or rubber feet if you're concerned about scratches.

The solution

Here how the final project came together. My husband came up with the idea for the mechanics. The family and funeral director loved the idea and I will be posting this on my website. Let me know what you all think about this?
