Wedding show
I’m planning to attend a wedding show next month... I attended the same show last year...Set up is the night before and everything went well but I was disappointed with my display... I had made a large table arrangement in all white with gold branches and crystals hanging from the branches it looked great but when I set it up at the show it disappeared. The curtains and the table coverings were all white. I’m wondering if anyone has any Ideas for me regarding colors that will have an impact

Can you find out in advance what the backdrop colors will be this year? Will it be the same white or another color?

If it is the white, then create a dynamic design using the most popular colors from the past few weddings you have done, or perhaps in what the Color trend forecasters say is the signature colors for 2011.

This is what I do....

Chose a theme and or color scheme. I find that bright colors go over best. And for every show I use a black velvet cloth that I lay over the white ones that are provided. This really makes your flowers stand out AND your booth, even from across the room.

I have a show tomorrow and our theme is Oriental. Our colors are red, blue, and green.
At the end of the month we are doing a butterfly theme with yellow, purple and green our butterflies will all be monarch to add a pop of orange and to keep the butterflies consistent which will make them stand out more.

In the past we have done....
vintage with whites, ivories, light blues, and peach used lots and lots of pearls, feathers, and metallics.

citrus theme using yellows, lime green, hot pink we used real fruit and faux fruit in our designs

We are known for our bing and wire work so we did a show themed around that. We used all turquoise blue wire and our flowers were orange with a pop of lime green. We used lots of bling, wire, and crystals. Each piece we did had one, two, or all three of the elements.

When we first started doing shows we only chose a color and not a theme, we did an all red show (lots of different shades of reds and we popped with lime green)
We did an all white show (which was the least well received show we have done to date.)

Oh and besides the theme and colors we rarely have a design plan. We "wing" it. We find our best work comes from when we line the buckets of flowers up and let our design instincts take over.

We always order flowers in that are a mix of "normal" flowers we have on a regular basis and "cool" flowers we rarely have or have never had at all.

We make a point to be sure our designs are not of those we have done before, especially for a wedding. We do what the brides call "funky" designs, and they LOVE them. We figure anyone can picture in their heads what a "ball of flowers" bouquet looks like, so we do stuff that is different things people in this area are less likely to see. Not to say we don't do "ball of flowers" designs, but they are always with a twist. And we are careful not to go too crazy that the brides in this area will think we are the designers who do strange work, we just take our normal weddings work and turn it up a notch.

Hope this helps. My best advise would be to get a black cloth (velvet if you can) to put over the white table. It will really make things pop.

I do many shows every year....and i try to vary what colours i take ?
However, there is one colour that Always catches brides attention and that is WHITE, CREAMS, IVORY,
As boring as that is, for me it is safe.....although i do different varations !!!!

Thats funny, our white show was the least well precieved show we have ever done. However, this past fall we did a vintage show and used whites, ivories, peaches, and light blue and it went over very very well. Maybe it was having a theme with it that helped, not sure

Our oriental show went very well today. People loved it. I think the most important thing is to keep all your pieces on the table cohesive, make it look like you made them for a single wedding, but with different alternatives.

There was another florist there as well and while her bouquets and pieces were nice, they were very simple and very ordinary. Anyone could of imagined them when explained. We like to do things with a twist and things brides may of never seen or thought of without the show. We had more than double the amount of pieces they did also.

Thank you so much for your helpful advice .. I would love to see some of your pics from your show oriental show that is one of my favorite designs styles ..

Here are a few pics from my last show. I was also surprised with a white backdrop (I was expecting black). If I had known it would be white, I would have chosen different linens.

I usually choose 2 or 3 different color theme. For each theme, I make a bouquet and centerpiece. I do a cake, ceremony arrangement, and alternative centers for different themes. I try to showcase a basic bouquet, a premium bouquet, and something a bit "different". I find that bright colors attract people to my booth... and doing something "different" helps them remember me.

I usually have an 8ft table and we dont have a backdrop. I split it into three mentally and then put a tall design in the middle, usually in deep pinks with matching accessories, ht, wand, handbag (generally a bit vintage). I then have whites either side, one contempary with callas and one more traditional. My aim is to attract as many people as possible as the major conversations i hear between brides and their friends are things like, "oh that is what i wanted, white roses, or vintage, or diamantes" etc etc. I love all the weird and wacky stuff but think that people can sometimes relate to what they consider normal.

I have just searched the house for the lead for my camera to put a pic on for you and cannot find it, i will find it and post.

Wendy - I usually split my table in two - one side for bouquets and one side of centerpieces. Last fall, I added 2 digital picture frames with about 150 pictures of work we had done as well my portfolio album. What a response - the girls loved the pictures and they showed so much better in a low light room that the flowers themselves. I also reworked my portfolio by color. Made the girls focus a little better when they were at the table.

Wendy, Let me tell you something use pink Honeysuckle rose they call it spray you branches with this colour and then get a cheap table cloth and spray the table cloth that colour and put some white lights under the table cloth a quick fix that will look great
