Hey guys -
I will be doing florals for a fund-raiser party at the zoo this summer - (I volunteer for this each year) - the theme this year is "celebrating our new arrivals" - new animals that have either been born at the zoo this year or acquired from elsewhere. The new animals range from birds to reptiles to buffalo - the focus is on the "new arrival" concept. We'll be doing a main center display area in the bar tent, and maybe 50 to 60 cocktail table designs in varying sizes. I need some creative thoughts as to structure, props and materials that might convey the message.
Any thoughts? Sure would appreciate some creative input - thanks!

When is your event? I have a couple for ya, give me time to pull me thoughts together. Also your doing c/tables to cor.with main piece? Your money or theirs?

Did you attend symposium in Washington, DC ? - I don't have pictures, but several designs were done for one of the parties......that used the long pool float foam noodles....with colored oasis carved into snake heads and tails, glued to the foam noodles, and then used floral materials to decorate the snake ( like scales, tongue, eyes, etc ).

If any FC'ers attended DC symposium and has pictures of the faux snakes.....please post.

more info on my ideas request

Ok - good questions - they give me a pretty decent budget to purchase florals, props, etc - last year I had about $1800 to work with for the table designs - (I think we did about 65 pieces, mostly in 8" lomeys) -
and yes whatever we do for the main bar display is repeated at least somewhat in the table pieces. I need to convey the "new arrivals" concept and that's what I'm having a hard time with. The event is in multiple tents, at the zoo, (early evening) with dancing, strolling supper and cocktails (lots).
I volunteer my time and knowledge. Thanks for reading - keep ideas coming, I'm still drawing blanks!!

How about incorporating pictures of the "new" arrivals in some way. Maybe divided the centers up by the number of arrivals and focus on a theme for that animal in 'x' number of centers.

Is this event taking place before or after Kansas City symposium?

As you know, symposium parties always have a wealth of ideas.

Am I missing something - that's only $27 per piece - charging nothing for set up or props?? This is a huge challenge for that budget. Can you increase at least $100 each year?

How about a Welcome Home Party....you could use mylars, assorted animal images or zoo like creatures.
A tall clear vase iwth some stones, and floating candles. maybe a dendrob orchid or mokara spray inside vase with candle on top.
You might could get containers back, check the Dollar Tree for inexpersive glass...
I know this is not real creative, but a thought...

We also did river cane bundles in clear or colored vase with a spray or w of orchids out the top with bear grass, on a grass mat or moss mate sqaure.

Or a all out baby shower theme, with baby bottle with carns, roses, diaper table topper, assorted baby toys or plastic animals scattered around, Welcome to new Arrival mylars, votive candles, etc.

hope this helps to get those brain cells kicking.......!!!!

Idea for the Zoo

Perhaps you could visit second hand stores or gather donations from other florists of tiny stuffed animals of various baby animals. Using a cylinder with horsetail and river rock. put the stuffed animal in the middle of the horsetail and you could use glue dots to manipulate the little paws around some of it to have it appear as if the little amimal is peeking out through the jungle. Bulk Horstail isn't too much. It gives you the natural feel as well.

how about little blooming trees with hanging pictures of the mommy and her new arrival... each table could have a different animal, if there's 65 animals....

Or you could have tall branches with mommy and new arrival on each table...

With this idea, you could have one big central tree/branch arrangement ith ALL the new arrivals.

Remember this is a fund-raiser - no one is making anything on mark-up or labor. So the $27 per piece is what can be spent on container, foam, flowers and greens, etc. Last year's theme was "Year of the Frog" and we used green fuji mums, button pomps, etc. along with some painted dried materials (and assorted plastic frogs!) for a really bright and fun look.

How about ignoring the animal theme and just go with a "Baby Theme". Baby humans, baby monkeys, we all love babies, I think it has something to do with big heads and soft kissable bellies.
Use lots of pastel yellows and blues. Bring in baby bottles. I usually use this company for theme parties.

Hey thanks a bunch guys for all the great creative ideas - I'm now visioning some combination of the branches and/or equisetum designs suggested, along with the baby arrival aspect - this has helped a lot to get the gears turning - busy with sketchpad now - I'll let y'all know how it all turns out. Thanks!
