Ok, I need some guidance here. I have brides come in that want specific colors that they see in magazines for flowers. Looks like it's not a big deal. Well...... everything I try to get I can't. Seems like there are only certain colors of each flower that are available. I try ordering way in advance and still can't get what I want. I have 5 suppliers I can order from but still no one has what I'm looking for....not even close. Any thoughts or suggestions. ???

Oh, yes. I went through this very same thing. Chocolate cosmos is very hard to get. Certain gerbera colors are only produced at certain times of the year. I have started to take down the info and let them know the flowers I think might be very seasonal and not available. Roses, I tend to not have any problem with, but other things are just different. I do have a great wholesaler that will try to get me anything. He even calls me ahead of time or tells me when I order if they have had problems with certain flowers. I tried 4 differsnt wholesalers to get this kind of service and always the day of pick up surprise after surprise of wrong colors, rotted flowers, substitutions that were not OK, etc... Now I let the bride's know that if I have to make a substitution I will make it to the best choice available. So far, no problems and I am alot less stressed. Whew!!!!

I agree, I always tell brides if I know I can't get what they are looking for.
ie: peonies in December! (but I can get silk)
For others I tell them I will work with my wholesalers to get what they want, but if need be, subs may be used. I also try to focus on a look, feel, and color scheme, rather than a certin flower. HTH

Segregate the colors from the flowers. Or at least tell your brides that certain colored flowers may not be available at the time of their wedding, but the color might be available in a different flower.

I love it when brides bring in magazine clips of wedding bouquets.

I also tell Brides that subs may be necessary but I will try my hardest to get what they want. I priced out some bouquets in very popular mags just to see, and was not suprised at what I would have to charge for them. When I showed some of those bouquets with a price next to them and the Brides were shocked? Go figure! I guess the Brides thought that they could get the flowers in the picture for $75.00 but would have no problem paying $10,000.00 for the dress, $500.00 for the shoes, $50,000.00 for the jewels. :hammer:

I also let brides know that I may have to substitute certain flowers if they're not available. I also let them know that the bouquets in magazines may be silk, which can account for not being able to find certain flowers in certain colors. I only use the magazine pictures as a guide to get an idea of what they like.

They may have also photoshopped the colors.

Try Kohler and Dramm in Minneapolis

I've been ordering all my special color flowers in and out of season from Kohler and Dramm. (Ask for Dan.) They have a huge room of just flowers. When I was there last week they had every color in the rainbow.

They have ordered in flowers from Ecaudor, Holland, Brazil, etc. when I have brides that are very selective.

Give them a try. They're in Minneapolis, MN and they will fly flowers to you.
