I am in the process of renewing my domain and I get this offer from Network Solutions...

Promote Your Business and Be Found on the Web
Add Online Marketing Plus to your domain registration(s): $44.95 a month

Online Marketing Plus can help prospective customers find your business online. This package includes guaranteed placement in Yahoo!® and other major search engines, preferred listings in Online Yellow Pages like Yahoo!® and AOL® — as well as e-mail marketing. And we do all the work for you!

Select one domain for each web site you want to market.
Do any of you SEO people here think this would have any value, or is it just more SEO snakeoil? It's pretty pricey, but you know two orders a month would pay for it, which isn't really that many. You have to wonder if it might have *some* value because it coming from the "king" of the 'net, so to speak.

Any thoughts, as always, would be greatly apppreciated!

My biggest concern with these offers is that so many people seem to think they can offer top placement. There are only 10 "Top Ten" spots, and I've had more than 10 offers in the past 2 months.

Remember, too, their idea of "Top" search engines often includes a bunch of nobodies and pay-per-search companies. If it ain't Google, Yahoo, MSN, it's probably not worth it.

Having said all that, if it's a monthly contract, risk $100 and try it for two months.

The 'guaranteed placement' on Yahoo is probably just the old Inktomi program that you can do yourself for about $50 IIRC. A Yahoo YP ad with a clickable link is only $25/mo but is hardly worth it these days since the YP link from the home page has been replaced with Yahoo Local. (Plus the first full YP page for each city is 100% OG's)

Why don't you google the name of the program and see what other niche webmasters have to say?

Yep. Also, they just promise 'placement' but page 100 is 'placement'.

The program sounds more like SEM (marketing) than SEO (optimization). If you optimize well, the efforts pay off long term. Marketing (like pay-per-clicks) is an ongoing expense.

I agree with Ryan. Don't buy it Mark.

But let me tell you about the integrity of the people they employ!
Got an e-mail from a Rocky Dorn, address NETWORK SOLUTIONS, TECH SUPPORT Dec 14th, asking us to save him a dozen peach roses for pick up on 23 Dec, 2006. Confirmed with him our hours and that the roses would be on hand and saved for him. NO SHOW AT CLOSING TIME + 3 HOURS WE WERE WORKING AND DIDN'T LOCK THE DOORS! Tried to call the phone number he gave us, got some barely English speaking person and was told to make a personal call like that we have to have a U.S. PHONE NUMBER!:soapbox:
