Two weeks ago we adopted a 6 week old kitten to have in the store , mainly to help solve the mouse problem we are having. They have eaten and destroyed about 30% of the seed we put into the trays and even the seeds that came up they ate all our marigolds and tomatoe plants. Anyway , traps and bait seem to be useless so hence the cat, yesterday was a proud day , his first kill which he brought back in his mouth and presented to us. Should have got him sooner.

I was thinking about that yesterday....

we had a major mouse expolsion around here about 5 years ago, and after trying the trap, and bait, and poison methods to no avail, I hired this Dutch fellow, who concots up this potion of natural ingredienst NOT harmful to humans, or large animals, but, TOTALLy destructive to the mouse population, and it's ability to reproduce.
Within about 6 weeks, we started noticing a rapid decline in the mouse infestation, and within 10 weeks, nada mouse, or mouse dirt in sight...and we've been mouse free now, for over 4 years.
75 bucks a year, and as many applications as is necessary, which at THIS point, is ONCE a year...
Mike

does this dutch fellow do housecalls down here for that $75.00 a year or is his secret given out.

Does he parade down the main street playing a flute with a line of rodents trailing behind him. Being election time we normally call him the candidate. Beware of it this time , summer election , all that bs and heat not a good combo the smell will linger long after the promises are broken.

Elmo and George, my kitties, look at mice, invite them in to a 'REALLY COOL HOME", and the rest is hisstory. ;)

HAVE YOU HAD MANY CUTOMERS COMPLAIN OF ALLERGIES? i GOT A SMALL PUPPY A year ago ( I was having empty nest syndrome after my youngest left) and she comes to the store with me daily. She is also great therapy for some of my employee/patients( it's a theraputic shop) anyway a half dozen or so customers have made comments about allergies. The shop is spotless, the dog doesn't shed and they are only here a few minutes a visit--just wondering....
P.s. the dog stays no mattter

Lorrie, I have had a few who are afraid or allerigic to our shop cat and make comments about it but I have also noticed that these people who make such silly comments are stinking of cheap K-Mart Perfume!.

Lorrie, my Oscar (94 lbs of chocolate lab) greets every customer at our counter. I have had no one say a thing but we had another lab for 5 years who also did the same thing (sad story had to put to sleep at 5) and we had customers who mourned with us when he was gone. They are mostly all glad to see another dog greeting them.
Our shop cat (16 yrs old) we have had to move to the back design room if someone seems to be afraid to come to the counter, we just pick her up and move her and takes care of the problem. We've only had one customer (not a regular) who is scared to death of cats and complained about her being there. She entertains the walking groups every night in the summer by her antics in the window and has her own fan club. She even gets cards and valentines from a young man in Nova Scotia who met her when they were both 5 yrs old.

From the mouth of the young ones!

Had this young men about 15 or so wanted to know how much does this heart shape wreath i had on the wall for sale...
I hope you guess what type of wreath he was asking about...I told him they were for funerals and I don'tthink his girlfriend would like it. IT then asked me about the price for 2 dz roses, then 1 dz....I got the feeling he did not know how much flowers cost these days....

Sad to report , Forest has gone to that happy mouse hunting ground , he's was last seen on sunday night , his body was found this morning , vet said more than likely hit by a car , little tiny bits of blood around his mouth and nose , but no other signs of damage .

Sunny,

So sorry to hear this news. I'd hate to lose one of our furry employees like that. :(

Ryan

Sunny,
Sorry to hear of your loss.

We had to take our last shop cat home because he wouldn't stay inside and we were afraid of the same thing. Trying to figure out if invisible pet fence would work in the store......

Ah Brian... I'm really sorry to hear about Forest.

My boys are indoor cats now. It took some time, but they're better for it... they have no street smarts at all. They were used to the wilds of Ipperwash, the woods, the gardens and few vehicles. The wilds of London would kill them for sure.

I know exactly how you feel as we lost Riley , at cat we adopted out of the parking lot, he was all boy and that was what did him in, yr ago January he went missing for 4 days we called day and night for him but when he made it back he was in rough shape. So i called my local vet who knew his history and he just took him away for us,.We got another in 2 days (Lillie) she spent one night in the shop and now lives up here with us,wants no part of the shop, but then why would she , she owns our bed now LOL Joanne

Keeping him in was not a viable option , the greenhouses are wide open all summer and we did try to keep him in , plugging up every hole he managed to find , actually had him down to a vent that I had covered with chicken wire, needed barbed wire , he tore that down , we had him nuetered at 5 months , but he still prowled at night , constantly in fights, I am now on the look for another kitten, maybe a female this time, some say they don't venture as far from home. Forest will be missed , he had a personality ,like I've never seen , liked people, very friendly, but not for long.
