I was looking at our site logs this morning and noticed we had 2 sales from visitors in the last day or so that arrived through Flower Chat. These were consumers, not florists. :)

Here's how the online purchases took place:

Both shoppers came in from the FC Image Gallery, particularly this page - the puppy made of flowers.

A Google search for Dog Flowers shows the FC photo as the #10 result. (I'm not sure the visitors arrived at FC via Google, but they definitely found the photo through a search engine.)

By naming the photo 'Dog Flower' (*on-target keywords*), using the keyword tags of 'Dog', 'Puppy' and 'Flowers' (*more on-target keywords*), and linking from the photo description to the page on our website where the item can be purchased, the visitors were provided with the opportunity to convert to customers.

The funny thing is, one did choose the dog flowers, the other ended up buying a large easel spray. Both were for local Orange County delivery. Go figure. :dunno:

If you are concerned that a visitor may want your unique items for delivery out of your area, consider using the following language on product landing pages:
A (Your Shop Name) Exclusive design available 'as shown' in our (City Name and Area Name) delivery area only. Please phone us at 1-800-XXX-XXXX if you wish to send a similar design out of our delivery area as a similar dog flower arrangement is not always available for the same look and price in other regions of the US.
We do get calls and give the direct phone numbers of local stores in other areas. (I've talked at least a couple FC members through the technique to make the designs so they could get the sales referrals.)

So when adding photo images (some - not all - since we don't want to look like link spammers) to the FC gallery, here's a way to help your business:
  • Use a keyword targeted title for the photo
  • Add keywords that best describe the photo
  • Add a link to the live product page on your site or to the section most applicable to the design shown. (i.e. link a wedding bouquet to your wedding page)
Ryan has done a terrific job providing us with the tools to reach out to consumers - like the gallery, the blogs and the directory. It frustrates me to no end that they are so under-utilized.

Do yourself a favor today - upload a fantastic photo of your unique work, give it a keyword rich title, tag it with more on-target keywords and link to your site in a well-written description.

No guarantee you'll be flooded with traffic, but every bit helps. And the price is right. :>

I've said it before....

I love it when a plan comes together!

Just added one, fall pheasant arrangement. Not the best cropping job. Realized after I finished that I didn't put any link back to my website :(. Can I change the listing? Thanks! Jenny

Yes, you can go to "my photos" or whatever it's called, in the gallery area, and "edit" your individual photos.

It has been amazing to see the attention to the images. This was really a great idea and it really does work.

When you look at the cost of doing business online and compare it to this service "which is free" all your doing is investing a little bit of time.

I think I just spent maybe 20 seconds on the one I just uploaded.
