NEW FOL Restrictions

Just posted on my blog about new FTD FOL website restrictions related to updating homepage text on YOUR website.

See: www.floristseowatch.com

You mean that FTD now gets to further control a florist's business so that they can effectively compete against florists? You mean they get to decide what content is on your website so that search engines only find FTD.com? You mean they are going to charge you $100 or more dollars for the service of telling the florist how to participate in ecommerce?

Say it isn't so! Surprise!

Grasping at straws!

Anyone with an FOL site willing to contact FTD and have them forward a copy of these new federal regs?

Just by coincidence I was planning on updating the text on ours this week. This could be interesting.... Will report back after I do.

Curious... from what a FOL manager told me is that too many folks are using bad HTML coding in the florist messages, that it is causing their sites to not load off the servers or cause no text to be shown. They basically shut down the option to edit your florist message content. You can still add products etc. Very easy to do now with Mercury X.1 BTW...

I went to edit my site, and I too got the same message. So, I called and the rep there was able to enter the text for me. This is TOTAL horse-hockey but I can understand why they did it.

What FOL needs to do (and mighty quick too) is to re-design their archaic web portal, so that it is just REALLY simple to update your site. If you don't know HTML, you can mess it up! Then, you call FOL support, and......

Anyway, they need to get with the times and make these sites easier to use.

Good luck with that one Herb...

Maybe they upgrade to a WYSIWYG editor before the end of the century

I was a big supporter of FOL. The changes are way to slow in coming. One feature I asked for was the ability to add multible price and sizes for Tulips. Like FTD.com Was told 4 years ago coming soon. Bet you can't still do that. Three years ago Mark Graur said updates would be delayed till they upgraded their platform. He said it would take a while. Can't believe it's not done. I don't understand the lack of commitment to the FOL web sites. They had a good product but hardly improve it. Too bad not the same effort as mercury.
First question I asked Ryan at Strider was the tulip question I mentioned above. Got an immediate yes we can. BTW
9 months with Ryan and just got a major update. I feel it's a better
product for far less money.
