FTD Pres. Mike Soenen today announced a new joint program partnering Walmart with its member florists. FTD will provide its florists with a high quality glossy catalog showcasing some of Walmart's best selling big ticket items (tvs, dvds, computers, etc). The florists will be able to show these catalogs to their customers and take orders from them, earning a 20% sales commission.
Walmart will deliver the items to the purchaser, or any recipient that they specify, in the United States as well as several select foreign countries.
Orders must be placed over the Mercury system before 2 PM for same day delivery. Because of Walmart's efficient supply system, there will be no charge for delivery; florists may charge a reasonable "service charge" but they can term it a delivery charge when billing the customer. Orders over $199.99 will be eligible for a $6 "rebate" (best in the industry!).
At first, Walmart executives were skeptical of the value of the program, but the FTD sales team convinced them that this program would open up the Walmart shopping experience to the approx. 2% of the American consumers who do not already shop there. FTD president Soenen also told Wall Street that in light of the current FTD/Walmart/florist program where florists deliver flowers ordered through the discounter, it was only fair to aid the independent florists who originally started FTD.
Press release scheduled for release 4/1/2007
