Yesterday was a very emotional day for my friend Jack.
He was on a transplant list for 4 years now for a new heart.
Last check up was two weeks ago, where the doctors where really happy that he shed 35 pound Which gave him a 50% chance to recover better with a new heart.
Yesterday morning at around 11:00 am or so, he receive a call from the Heart Institute in Ottawa. THey had a new heart for him.
I was told about this 30 minutes later and he had left the mall and had not been able to say bye. I left the store and went to the Airport to meet him there.
He arrive to catch the Air Ambulance and was able to say goodluck to him and his wife. You could tell, that a few tears had been shared between the two of them and his friends and reality hit that someone died for this cause. He or she may have not intented to die that day but he or she intented to help others.
A donor can save 6 lives when they donate their organ when they pass away. Heart, lung, 2 kidney, eyes, liver.
As he was going to leave on the plane, The Ottawa Heart Institute in Ottawa called and put a hold on the travelling plan. THey said they would call in 15 minutes.
Another call comes through to the pilot and he was told to wait another 30 to 45 minutes. In my mind, was this going to be another let down for him like the last time. At this time he left the plane and waited in the Airport lobby for another call from Ottawa.
At this point, I couldnt stay another minute, as I left my store with only one staff member. I did however got the airport personel to call me if they leave. That is the benifit of living in a smaller town and you know lots of people.
At 2:00 pm. they got the call to travel. Everything was a go.
At 7:30 he was in the operating room
At 1:30 am this morning he was in ICU and the doctor's said that everythng went fine.
HE is not out of danger, his body still can reject the heart or other complication may set in but he has a ton of people in Elliot Lake praying for him.
Please keep him in your prayers.
Luc
