Hello Flowerchat,

My name is Caroland I am the owner of The Main Event in Mt. Airy, MD. We have a retail party supply store, balloon & gift delivery service, event decorating business and party rental business.

We started with a retail store and balloon decor and rapidly expanded to include props, draped fabric, etc. Last year we made the jump into doing our own floral. (we have been subcontracting floral arrangements for years). My primary reason for bringing floral in house was to increase quality control and expand our offerings to our customers.

I am really looking forward to learning from everyone on Flowerchat.

Carol.

Hey Carol,
Welcome! My family lives in Monrovia and their local florist has closed. Are you planning to become a "full service" florist as well and take deliveries? Are you in any wire service?
I need to find someone local that I can use. I'll have to swing by when I go out to visit them. Good Luck!
Linda

Welcome.

Curious... Do you yourself have any experience with floral design? If not, are you hiring someone who does or are you planning to "learn as you go?"
All of the above. I have limited experience (simple floral arrangements), I don't have the depth of experience for big events or complicated arrangements. I have someone on staff who is better than I am, but not confident. I'm working on hiring a part-time florist, but haven't had much luck with finding someone who really knows what they are doing, reliable and wants to work part time.

No, we're not planning to be a full service florist at least not in the immediate future. We're an eventing company (party rental & decorator). When a corporate client asks me to bring a buffet centerpiece I want to do it in-house. When a small wedding customer asks me to bring 5 modest floral arrangements along with our tent, tables, chairs and linens, I want to say "no problem". I know my limitations and won't take on anything I know we're not up to handling. We have a brisk balloon delivery business and sometimes receive floral requests through it.
