Hi all, I am a designer for a small flower shop in NY. I am currently working on opening my own shop in a smaller town and I am hoping to get ideas and information here. It will be my first shop and my first business so a lot of it will be new to me.

How long have you been in the floral industry? Where did you get your training? How soon do you want to open your own shop?

Thanks for the welcome, I have been in the business for almost 18 years direct and indirect. My mother has worked at the shop for 29 years and she got me into it when I was about 6 or 7. She would bring flowers home to me and I would arrange them for her. Helping me at first then only when I needed it. Next thing I knew the owner of the shop offered me a job at 16. I have been working in the shop for 8 years now. I was thinking about opening my shop within the next year. I do not want to rush it. But I dont want to wait to long in fear that I wont open. I know I am young but It does not stop me. The owner of the shop I am in opened the shop when she was 26, So she is my inspiration. Well hate to cut it short but time to head to work. Have a good one.
