I am creating a default list of questions for applicants.

What questions would you like to see posed to new members?

So far I have:
- How long have you been in business?
- Do you have any formal floral education?
- How were you referred to FlowerChat?
- What do you hope to gain from membership?
- What do you feel you can contribute to the community?
- Do you operate from a commercial building or your residence?

Please remember that business name and website information are already collected in the user's profile.

That is a good list of basic getting to know you questions....
Waht about if they have a website and a url so we can check up on them...I have found that most do not list their website even if they have one...

- How long have you been in the floral business?(lots of non-owners ...)
What is your position in the business you work in?
If you work from a studio or your home, are you a registered business, paying business taxes? Do you have a floral cooler?

Ryan, many don't provide their URL in their profile ... can it be made a mandatory entry? If not, I would add that to the list of questions ...

I've changed the wording for the website field, as it appears on the application. Let's see if that generates more responses.

Have you yet wasted the cost of a Lexus on useless advertising?

Do you have any cuts on your thumb?

Sorry, guess I'll have to leave, now.

Do you have cuts on your thumb, Bloomz???

I thought you didn't do flowers....

Heck no!

But I made up for it in wasted Lexus's.

I'm leaving now too.

But before I do - have any of you people ever heard the saying "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?"

At the FTD trip in Mexico I sat for at least 2 hours with the guy who'd just come from tf.con over to ftd.com - and I picked his brain for every tidbit I could get.

Not allowing them in here is like hiding your head in the sand - even Malik straightly stated whether he is allowed or run off, his plans would go forward, as others he knew of. Me, personally - I'd rather have a bit of insight on what they're up to, and maybe why flora2000 is kicking our collective asses in SERPs, as they indeed are.

I'm fairly astute at web stuff and fairly successful at it, but can always learn more - there's way more and the target moves darn near daily.

I spend a lot of time here - my excuse is - I live at my desk - it's my job in lieu of getting cuts on my thumb - and searching thru the 'how do I make a centerpiece?" posts to find something useful take most of my time...

also arguing about who gets in or not seems to be blowing a significant portion also.

hmmmmm

OK go ahead with the red dot again - maybe I deserved it. I'll call it a red dot for being dumb and not using my time effectively.

I must say tho...I've heard from several of the "senior members" (for lack of a better term) who's cards are played much closer to their chests because of the centerpiece questions.

's ok

opinions vary

blessings

I'm leaving now

No, but he's got blisters on the two fingers he uses for typing :poke:

Funny thing, the first time I ever met this guy from NY (yes JB you know him) was in the back seat of a limo in Chi-town...first thing he did was to grab my hand and turn it over to see if my thumbs were cut up...saying... "you're really a florist too...@@@@" when all the while he thought I just typed jibberish...

Lon's a florist, he's just not a designer, but his team partner is ;) and she's better look'n too!

One more suggestion for the new member intro stuff - occasionally, though more frequently lately, new applicants will post their intro on someone else's intro thread .... can you have them be limited to only posting in their thread? Gets a little confusing sometimes, till a moderator finds the post & scoops it into a new place.

Yes, what Tracy said!

Ryan,

I raised it somewhere else I think but am drowning in a sea of threads so not sure. Just in case it got missed is there anyway we can put a 72 hour hold on all newbies so that everyone who want's to vote can get round to making a comment/pressing the button. It would also allow for a longer dialogue with people to find out their real motives for being here ... that said because of something that's come to light in the last few days which I'll PM you about.

I may add to that the ones that are asked questions but don't answer should be some kind of 7 or 14 day reject cuz I'd be suspicious of moles.

Course I have black helicopters hovering over my house right now too, and there's something under my bed.

Okay, one more thing. I know you've said previously that "new applicants" can only see certain areas of the site, which makes sense, till they are approved.

Today, I saw a visitor noted on my profile page visitor list, who is an applicant, not a registered user. Earlier in the day, while I was looking at a new applicant's profile, , I noticed he was viewing the "cool flowershop websites" thread .... where exactly is their access limited?

Okay, now a new applicant is viewing user profiles from the member list ...... I think those black helicopters are around my house now

Good thoughts Caroline

I agree completely with a hold to give everyone, an opportunity if it can be done.
