Hello all,
My name is Allison Schrade and I own a home based event design company located Atlanta. I just made the transition from managing a retail floral shop and I have worked for over ten years as a designer. I miss the comaraderie of working with other designer's on a daily basis and the information I enjoyed sharing and receiving. My company's name is Jardin and I am hoping to grow my business slowly but steadily. I am looking forward to continuing to learn from others in places like this forum. Thank you for considering me for membership.

Hi Allison.

First welcome and a few questions.

Why did you decide to leave the retail floral world? Is your company a registered business with all that entails (taxes, business license, coolers etc.).

I'm not invasive but we want to maintain the integrity of this site for the professionals in their chosen fields.

Kind Regards.

Hello Victoria,
Good questions, I left the retail world because I no longer wanted to work for anyone but myself. My last job was at a wonderfully unique florist that was purchased by a lawyer with no experience in running a small business and no experience in the floral world at all. I had frustrating year, the business suffered, and I simply wanted to start my own company. I am licensed and very active in my local business community. I have a studio set up with a walk in cooler, and a smaller cooler for tropicals, along with design space for myself and my two employees. It is adjacent to my home, and as my business grows I plan to move to a warehouse space nearby. Retail space is very costly in my area, but I miss being a full service florist. If I can manage it, I will open a retail shop within five years. I had considered buying an existing business, but I have decided against that for many reasons! I hope that gives you a good picture of my situation. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I don't mind at all. I understand why.

Welcome aboard Allison and I thank you for being so forthright about your current situation in business.

There is much to learn here and I'm sure we have at least that much to learn from you as well... so ask and share. :)
