Happy New Year!
I just wanted to address the discontinuation of Crowning Glory from the John Henry Company.

I have received a ton of emails, and JTV feedback about this subject and wanted to let you know you my professional thoughts...

There was a change in raw product content from the manufacturer of Crowning Glory and it caused bacteria growth thus turning it pink... It happened to several batches and was a very expensive measure in recalls, replacements and eventually a second recall. John Henry decided to discontinue the product line due to this incident.

So... No More Crowning Glory....

What to do??? I knew this issue was on the table when I made my annual trip to Horti-Fair in Amsterdam with Eufloria Flowers... where I met with the scientists at Chyrsal... They were able to show me another product that was available as an ANTI-Transpirant... CHRYSAL PROFESSIONAL GLORY...

No I am a big fan of Chrysal Products.. I love the NEW Gerbera Tablets and I swear by the T-bags.. for my cold water conditioning... so I Thought I should listen to what they had to say...

They have test studies and technology and reports to back up their studies and development... that is good to read and see...but I wanted to test it myself to see how it worked... I had never been able to find a suitable substitute to Crowning Glory in the past... so I was a bit apprehensive!

I was able to secure samples of the Chrysal product and do some independent testing to see if it could measure up to the high standards we (as Professional FLORISTS) have in our FLOWER Industry. I used the former product (Crowning Glory) for All Photography Shoots, Book Instruction, JTV webisodes, Live J Shows and Wedding and Special events...

A FUNCTIONAL Anti-transpirant is a KEY tool to our success as Flower Designers... We need a product to keep our flowers FRESH Longer and allow us the necessary design time needed to insure our customer satisfaction and design reputations!

I needed Strict Testing on any REPLACEMENT, I might consider, to make sure that it would work as hard or possibly exceed the expectations I have for the Design Work we do in the Flower Industry...I needed an answer for not only myself but my Colleagues in the Flower Industry!

In my Opinion... Chrysal Professional GLORY does just that... It was created by Scientists that know flowers! Their extensive background in Horticulture and Floriculture allow them to create some of the finest post harvest products in the Flower Industry and Chrysal Professional GLORY stands up to those Incredibly High Standards.

I have been using the product for over 90 days now and it works Great! It has a bit more water content...and seems to leave the flowers with much less residue than any other product while still providing the molecular coverage needed to keep the flowers fresh. This means it acts differently when applied... you see the droplets... but no residue remains. As with any product change...you will experience a difference... but change can be good... as is the case with Chrysal Professional Glory!

I have not run into any flowers that have any sensitivity to the product...
I also had a Wedding Bouquet for a photography session that continued to
look great (outside of refrigeration) for over 4 days... using this product...
(the flowers ran out of water in the bouquet holder...before the Glory gave out).

So going forward... I am giving my thumbs up to Chrysal Professional Glory!

I hope this information is helpful...and as an aside, (you must know...) I don't get paid to endorse products... I always SEARCH for the best products that will excel and make life easier for the Professional FLORIST... that is my goal... to help insure Success!

I won't ever be in a situation where the product won't stand up to the rigorous standards of OUR Great Flower Industry and YOU the professional Florist!

Thanks J - We need a good substitute for CG - but can you still drink it?

I have been using AquaFinish Clear for about 3 months now, and continue to get raves from consumers just like I did when we used Crowning Glory...

For what it's worth...

I've used Aqua Finish for several years now, and find it a top notch product.

I tried aquafinish clear and I am not that happy with it(very watery), I will give Chrysal a try, thanks for the info J!

Funny you should ask... I asked that question ("can I drink it?") to the scientists at Chrysal and they said...
In Typical Dutch Fashion...
"Why would you want to????"... I told them the story and they laughed...and then followed it with.. "we would rather that you did not"...
I asked... "but COULD I if I wanted to?", they pondered and pondered and said...
"if you really must, but why?"... So I guess I could... hehehe!

what about Hawaiian Mist? Does anybody use it?

I use it, and love it. But, it's not really an anti-transpirant. It's more of a spray on floral nutrient. It still extends the vase life very well but, it's not really the same thing as CG.

(From what I understand anyway :) )

we use Floralife Finishing Touch...it's become one of our "staple tools" over our competitors!!
I tasted the stuff once......I'll stick with Forty Creek Rye Whiskey instead!!:alcoholic

We always loved Crowning Glory, but was working for Floralife and found the product
Finishing Touch to be better for our use. It is a marvelous product and look for it in your local whoesaler. It is much like Crowning Glory.
Not knocking in other product, this Finishing Touch is great!

Just an update...Crowning Glory is back and with a new improved formula... I'm so happy!:bangles:

Check with your local wholesaler...

I don't use any of that stuff for daily work. On rare occaisions maybe, just maybe, on some wedding stuff.

Why don't I use it?

Because if you seal up all the pores how is the flower going to transpire? If everything is glued up - sealed up with crowning glory, floral mist etc where does the water in the stem and petals go? It gets dammed up, doesn't it? If it gets dammed up will the flower last longer or shorter?

I don't know the answer, just sort of thinking about it as I read this thread.

For me I would rather see the flower translocate water and vapor and open naturally. Flowers will last a long time if the recipient just recuts the stems and replaces the water every few days.

We only use it on wedding flowers, not everyday, for the exact same reasons as you.

You must have smarter customers than I do... I know mine don't do this...

As to spraying, we tend to over spray the design, so the flowers "transpire" (I just love it when you talk in big words!) on the back side...thus slowing the flow and not daming up the whole stream...

we like to do the "beaver" thing....we dam up everything we can.
Joe, feel free to "mist" over AND under......once flowers and greens are cut, their "aspiration" rate drops to almost zero, once re hydrated!!

I've even heard of dipping them in the stuff.
