My shop is closed today due to the Nor'Easter pounding Jersey with a mighty force. All the roads surrounding my shop are closed-absolutely no way to open. Evacuations for certain areas are taking place, but not mandatory yet. Medford area is deifinitely a mess! We have a Junior Prom this Friday, so we will have to play major catch up tomorrow. Tracy and Herb-how are things where you are?

Dianne - I'm just on my way in. Yesterday was a mess also... the road in our shop - Route 9 - routinely floods, though it usually is still passable. We most likely won't deliver, but I'll see on my way in how it is. We do have family funeral work, so I'm going to call the FH to see if they are postponing, or still proceeding. I'm wondering if the flowers we need will make it here from DV.

stay safe, sleep in!

Hey Tracy,

Glad to hear you're OK. I just spoke with my salesman at DV and apparently they are delivering today. I might just take your advice and sleep in rather than taking the day to do ho hum housework! Be careful out there!

I don't mind the snow or the rain..but both is too much. We lost electricity last night and since it is only the end of the road out it may take a while to get around to us..also on my way down the road..it caved in.. with the snow banks clogging the gutters all the wate washes over the road..taking it along.. I am not sure I will be able to make it home tonight. My neighbor is on the road committee so hopefully he can convince them to come out right now to work on it or it will totally disappear. and I can't get electricity until there is a road for the crew to drive up and reset the transformers.
I got stuck in the snow yesterday, had my driveway plowed to get me out.. had a flat tire.. that's 3./so my luck should be changing
But I do look like a drowned rat today..hair hanging, clothes & shoes wet, make up ignored in the dark.. oh well another day in paradise

Glad to hear you gals are holding your own!

So far, we're ok {knock on wood} - but so far we have lost 3 panes of glass in the greenhouse due to the wind blowing the ploy up and the snow/ice comes crashing down. But, most of the ice has melted & blown off.

Roads are not as bad as you gal have it...only a few closed around here due to flooding. The main road to my house is flooded out, so I'll be taking the back roads home today!

Feels like the middle of Feb. out there...not fit for Man nor Beast...

My back yard at home is a pond....sump pump system running every 5 minutes. Figure it's pumping out about 10 gal every few minutes, then cycles off for a couple... (good thing I tested the Battery Backup last week!!!)

Stay tuned...it aint over by a long shot...

PS - got my DV order only an hour late today....didn't think I was getting it at all today!

Take care ladies. We were spared much of the storm. I spoke with a supplier in Quebec today... they got slammed. April 16th... this is just wrong!

Yuck, Yucky, Yuckiest

Speaking of, I can not wait to leave here so I can get some dry socks on. I would have needed some rubbers today...for my feet!

Waddling like a duck

Glad to hear you all made it through without too much difficulty.
Heard many NJ areas were pummeled.
We got off easy here. Much less damage than expected,
Had pumps running through the whole thing to minimize the impact and today we're pretty much dry.

forecasters were telling us last night to expect 4-10" snow then to rain. We got a dusting of snow and lots of drizzle and rain/snow mix through most of today. Daughter down state has a small stream in her back yard which is now a raging torrent - she sent pictures - but her house sets on a hill above it so is okay. It is now raining very heavily and wind is just blowing my trees around in my back yard. Even the dog didn't want to go out to do his business just a few minutes ago. We have the wood stove going in case we lose power... We're okay here, but down past Erlene's way, lots of roads flooded with one road that took the life of a woman and 4 year old trying to cross it. They say we have another full day of this..until early Weds morning before it crosses into Nova Scotia and away....Watch out maritimes for the backside...

Take care, My Friends! You're in my prayers!

guess we prayed to the rain gods too much, now have about 3" of wet heavy snow and it's still snowing.....oh well. 50's Friday & Sat !!!

I saw the sun trying to peek through.. may not make it today but maybe tomorrow..
I went home to a passable road, just barely maybe 7 ft wide with the craters on either side spilling water on down to the lake, Electricity was on. but still can't get my gas fireplace to work..tonights problem.. oh and I do have a wet basement but all in all much better today.
My brother just returned the fixed tire for the van., Life is grand..
A whole lot of other people in New England have it much worse, New Boston was an island..no way in or out yesterday,, heard the bridge was deemed safe again this morning.
And oh how sad it was to watch the news at Virginia Tech.. I stayed home till 8am this morning watching it. I was at Kent State back in 1970 so all the memories of police and troopers on campas can back.
Why does this happen and can';t we find a way to stop it

The devastation in affected areas is very heart wrenching. Many lives were impacted. The resilience of human nature shines through though, many people helping people. It is really what life is about.

Largely I was unaffected by the storm professionally or personally with regard to property damage. One florist in our city lost the roof over one of her greenhouses and part of the roof over her retail section during the storm. They lost power and were concerned about their seedlings. Today she tells me they have power (and heat) back and have plastic over the damaged roof areas. She says they didn't lose anything, they are fortunate indeed.

Today our sidewalk sign says "April Showers Bring May Flowers" as a tongue in cheek tribute to Mother Nature.
